Not sure if this is the proper forum to ask, but I want to build my bot and am having trouble locating the Language Center on this site...I see no links. Can someone tell me...How do I get there? Thanks.

Mr. Shunpike -- your bot's language center can be located by going to "My Bots" and clicking on the link to "Language Center". There you'll find the rudiments of the center. You'll notice at first your bot can't really converse at more than a "goo goo ga ga" level, but use the tools described in "The Book of AI" and you can do just about anything.

Hint: you can give your bot the fastest ramp-up from its starting point by focusing on keywords like "you" "your" "I", etc., and using contexts like "you are" "how are you" etc. Then add any special keywords that are important to your Bot's character, and then be reactive to the transcripts of your Bot chatting. Jsut my opinion...

Mr Crab,
Thanks for your quick response. When I click the "My Bots" link, I see a page that has only this:
___________________
Your Bots

Select Bot to Work On

New Bot
____________
The only link is "New Bot"

Any idea what's happening?

Well, my first guess is that you haven't made a Bot yet? In which case you should click on "New Bot" and make one!

If you *did* make a Bot and it has somehow disappeared, say so and I'm sure the Professor will check it out. NEver heard of that happening though.

Hmm.. you havent made a Bot yet. Thanks for the answer, Mr. Crab. I'm really busy right now with closing on our house, so I can only spare a few moments here until that's settled.

despite how many lines of code you write and how many situations you plan for, bots using scripts will never convince me they are human. The whole idea is fundamentally flawed. Neural Networks are the way of the future.

22 years ago #57
Yeah, maybe, but show me a neural net that works! Seems to me it ends up being just a longer way to accomplish the same thing, usually. Programmed logic might only hope at best to simulate intelligence, but as for being intelligence I'll believe it when I see it.

I say, construct a hardware brain first if you ever want to be able to build one out of software...

i don't think you've actually seen neural nets in action. ai scripting must take into account every possible situation that might occur, and must be rewritten from scratch for any new paradigm to be handled. Neural networks are very adaptive and fault-tolerant. At current technology, for chatbots, ai scripting is better, but when neural networks become better implimented and larger, they will be more human than any ai script could hope to be.

as for hardware, it's at least 10 times as expensive to impliment than to simulate it in software first.

Oh, I agree, I do. NN's are definitely more fault-tolerant -- but although things may have progressed from the last time I was playing with NN's. at that time there was so much tinkering in the reinforcement end that I really questioned whether this wasn't just a roundabout inefficient way of scripting.

I agree hardware is harder to do than software, but I think the results would be much more reliable. Where do you get your 10x figure? I've never even heard of a feasible hardware proposal -- what's up?

The problem is that current neural network implimentations are still so far from biological neural networks... I've only worked with simple applications of neural networks, and it worked pretty well for what i was trying to do.

you have to design the circuits to be fabricated on a chip and stuff... the whole process is quite expensive. I just pulled the 10x figure out of my ass, but you get the idea. The cheapest way i can think of to do it in hardware is to use a programmable chip... but of course you have to program that from the gate level, which can get pretty complicated i'm sure.

out of curiosity, what type of NN were you using exactly?

hi how are u A.I.

what is NN??? someone tell me
