That happened last year - there was an AIM bot that raced to the top of the popularity part of the contest because the creator had a lot of AOL buddies that voted for him.

I've found that the popularity part really has little to do with the technical goodness of the bot.

12 finalist have been selected for the 2006 CBC. They are in alphabetical order:

1) Alice
2) Aries
3) Bildgesmythe
4) Brother Jerome
5) Elbot
6) Ella
7) Jabberwacky
8) Jabberwock
9) Joan
10) Landru
11) Mathetes
12) Talk-Bot

Bildgesmythe received the highest number of votes but with so many bots to pick from and many botmasters not voting it was a rather bunched field. With that said 2 additional bots were added but it wasn't based soley on the botmaster votes. The 10 questions score was looked at, the ranking in the online voting, and past performance in previous CBC contest.

Wasn't there a similar problem last year with a lot of people not bothering to vote for the 10th bot? Perhaps a rule should be added that requires botmasters to place that vote or be disqualified from the next years contest?

Wow, my bot ended up in 32nd place. That's actually a cooler number than 40, because it's 2^5.

Congratulations to all the top winners and Congratulations to all winners since everyone is a winner alone by having participated <0>

I did vote for one of the bots when it came to botmaster votes.

I thought about that but things happen. E-mails get lost, people get sick, people go on vacation, people lose interest.

As I said many people didn't vote at all be it PF botmasters as well as non PF botmasters. But I do want to say this specifically to the PF botmasters. I'm not trying to embarass anyone so I'm not naming names but trying to make a valid point about the botmaster voting.

3 people from the PF didn't follow the directions I sent. 1 voted for a bot already in the finals while 2 voted for only 1 bot not the 2 that were required. In addition 1 bot in particular received a good many votes but the botmaster didn't even vote. Had these people followed directions one of the 2 remaining bots would have been a PF bot. It amazes me that you spent an enormous amount of time to make a bot then won't spent a few minutes to read a short e-mail and respond according to the instructions. Oh well you just lost your chance at possibly winning $1800 in prize money plus some nice medals.

Not sure what more I can do. The e-mail seemed pretty straight forward to me.

Wendell

*Note - Aries and Brother Jerome were only asked to select 1 bot because they had already made the finals. All botmasters who didn't make the finals were ask to select 2 bots.
