while 2 voted for only 1 bot not the 2 that were required
Oops! One of them's probably my fault - Little Monster's email never arrived, so I forwarded her a copy of mine. I didn't know non-finalists had to choose 2. Sorry!

I've been having email problems and never received the mail.
Well that is why I posted this on the PF message board.
Hi,
If you entered a bot you should be receiving an e-mail regarding voting for the 10th bot. That bot is to be selected by the botmasters. If you didn't receive this e-mail please e-mail chatterboxchallenge@yahoo.com
You have to understand this is a one man show. I am dealing with 60+ bots. I think I make myself available to anyone who needs to contact me. My advice is you have to look after your own bot and don't assume someone else is going to do it for you.

Little Monster you lose all creditability with me when you can't even spell my name. Here is the letter. I said select 2 bots twice in the letter. If that's not clear then I don't know what is.
Hello,
You are receiving this e-mail as you have a bot entered in the 2006 Chatterbox Challenge. Verbots has completed the scoring of the 10 questions and the results can be found at the contest site at www.chatterboxchallenge.com under the heading Scores. The top 9 best scores move on to the finals and they are:
1) Brother Jerome - 72
2) Alice - 68
3) Jabberwacky - 59
4) Elbot - 56
5) Mathetes - 55
6) Aries - 53
7) Landru - 52
8) Joan - 46
9) Jabberwock - 45
These scores will not be carried over to the finals as all the bot will start back to even.
The 10th bot is to be selected by the botmasters from the remaining bots listed below.
Please read these Rules carefully or your ballot will be discarded.
1) You can only select 2 bots from the list below. Do not select a bot from the 9 above as they have already made the finals.
2) You can select your own bot.
3) This part of the contest relies on the good will of the people voting. Please select the 2 bots you feel are the most deserving.
4) Send your selection to this e-mail address which is chatterboxchallenge@yahoo.com
5) The deadine is April 30th 2006 at 10.00 pm Eastern standard time. No entries will be accepted after the deadline has passed.
This is a vital part of the contest. It is important and it is expected that you place your vote.

Wendell,
I'm very sorry to hear that we didn't follow your directions correctly. On behaf of the PF i appologize for our error.
I truly beleive that we didn't intentionally make the error, and any error that was made wasn't due to any fallacies on your end.
Everyone who filled out their votes and replied to your email was with the intent to partake in the contest and help you as much as possible. Those who made any mistake im sure feel bad for their error and will try to do their best in the future...

Breathe Wendell.
Perhaps I might be able to shed a little light on why:
"you [I] spent an enormous amount of time to make a bot then won't spent a few minutes to read a short e-mail and respond according to the instructions."
Firstly: you are right, the amount of energy it takes to cast the vote is less than is required to type this explanation, so why haven't I voted? Several reasons, primary one being that I am not motivated to enter the contest in order to compete, win cash, and receive trophies (as nice as that would be if it happened) but rather for the rare opportunity to see how our collective botmaking efforts benchmark against one another using a standard testing process.
This is quite a different, more wholistic impression than reading choice bits in the "Great Quotes" forum. Quite frankly I really do like most of the bots that participated and consider it a joy to see how each answered the same question in their own personal way.
Somehow this helps strengthen the 'damn-cool' illusion that they are beings-in-development as opposed to key phrases responses and seeks. Yeah, I might be deralict in my part for determining the winners but my enthusiasm for bot development has grown from the experiance as well as a quirky but real feeling of community.
"Oh well you just lost your chance at possibly winning $1800 in prize money plus some nice medals."
-but still came out ahead for the participation. For what its worth, I will send you 2 bot names after I finish up here this eve. Pax.

I have a good bit of experience with trying to get people to follow simple directions in order to participate in group efforts for which they have volunteered over a website. Invariably, it seems, they don't, without ridiculous amounts of coaxing and repetition. {Insert preferred theory of societal decay here.}
I enter my bot primarily because I like the guest traffic that gets generated in my transcripts, but I did participate by voting. This year (unlike last year) I actually liked my own bot well enough to vote for it. The other one took some consideration, though, because all the ones that I really thought ought to be in the finals already were.
