Bot Contest
Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

Butterfly Dream: Are you serious?! The bots have to simulate typing in realtime? That's ridiculous. Half the game will be who simulates that the best. *rolls eyes*

That's just retarded...with rules like that, I wouldn't be surprised if I lose points for having lost my head!

I don't see any evidence of judges talking to Sim3 in the transcripts. Is that done on a separate interface or something? (Unless they are a particularly vulgar lot.)

I don't see the point in typing one character at a time. A delay before writing the answer is OK, because instant answers are a dead giveaway with bots. But anything else is just giving unnecessary headaches to bot programmers.

There's not a chat interface in existence used by real people that shows what the other person is typing one character at a time.

Umm...yes there is...but it's chat and not instant message. ICQ chat allows you to see the other person's keystrokes as they type.

Yeah...so it seems like for the contest they're wanting it to resemble real-time chat, rather than an IM exchange..

You can 'fake' keystrokes using 'Swish' in flash animation.. but it all has to be programmed in. Possibly an icq type of prog. But I still can't see how they would do this.

When I first started real-time chatting (oh god i hope i'm not dating myself too much
) you always saw the letters appear as they were typed. I remember getting annoyed chatting with people that would backspace to correct typos even though I knew what they meant because it was so slow, and I just wanted them to finish their sentence...but they just HAD to go back and correct their spelling error, and I was thinking, "aw, come on!" *sigh* lol

I guess that means that if anybody programs their bot to do typos and correct them, they'll be winners. That sucks. Other bots have entered the Loebner with typos, and I don't think that's the point at all.

Yeah, Hugh Loebner is old school. He thinks that will make the bots seem like humans typing (even though most interfaces don't look like that anymore).
Last I heard, the Loebner judges' cue to switch to the next judge was @@01 (or whatever number), which apparently harkens back to Loebner's UNIVAC days. No joke.
