Just a curiousity, how are the total number of bots on at a given time controlled? Is there a minimum/maximum. The reason I ask is that at the moment there are only fourteen people on at the moment, three of which are users.

Well the main reason I asked is that the appeal of making bots would increase... I dunno, threefold if we could bring them into IRC or the like.

newbie question: why is chat with my bot so slow...is there a way to turn off the sound? Is that what is slowing it down? the chat window disappears for about 20 seconds between replies...help

There have been some technical problems lately, maybe to do with the new provider. It is not possible to switch of the sound, at least not by us. The Professor might be able to do it, not sure it will have an effect on speed. Wouldn't hurt to try I guess

The sound really isn't that important. I'd happily get rid of it for more speed, as it usually hasn't figured out what to say until after I've replied.

I never hear the sound anyway...something wrong with my comp or do I not have the volume up loud enough? Not that I really wanna hear it, but it'd be nice to know. (Note: I've only been here for a day. It's pretty neat but my bot is a lot dumber than most others I've seen.

Oh yeah, I had a thought. How come there's no way to weight various responses to something, or am I just clueless? For example, if someone says they're bored it'd be nice if my bot could tell them a joke *most* of the time, but occasionally say so what. Not that I'd wanna use this feature excessively if it existed, but it could be useful on occasion. Is this planned, or am I just too new to know how to do it, or what?

Ok, this is pathetic. My bot has more honor than I do.
What exactly does honor mean in this context though? How long you've been around, how many ppl like you, or what?

I've noticed that too, I think sometimes their responses don't have the same keywords, but are referring to the same thing. The bots recognize a bit of that as the original subject, but it's not perfect.

Responses are chosen at random, so you can weight them by controlling frequency. Give your bot several jokes, but just one "So what" response.

Well that'd be entirely possible but at the time I could only think of one joke that wouldn't take 3 years to type out.

Bots log in randomly- there's no limit to how many can be on.
New Bots may have more honor than their makers, but they'll both climb as you log in and work on them. They get a special edge because uh.. Bots are cool. (in other words, that's just how the secret mathematical formula works out).
