Here's a n00b question. I set up the link to my bot and posted it in my blog, but when my friends try to give him(Westerlin Man) a spin, he doesn't respond to very much. Instead, it just says "..."(the bot no longer wants to talk to you). He will respond to some things(like insults, oddly enough), but not most things. Why is this?

I think it's the xnones. If a bot tries talking to a person and they don't hit any of its keyphrases, it'll get tired of trying to communicate.
I think that happens if your bot gives three xnones in a row and still gets no keyphrase trigger.
If that's what's happening, the solution would be to add more keyphrases to increase the chance of the humans hitting on one.

I thought about that too, because it wasn't using any xnones. See, this is right off of the bat. They click on the link, it goes to the page where the bot says, "hi", they type something in the box, and then it refuses to respond. So that doesn't totally explain it....

Hm...I copied it exactly. I have another question too. I typed in the script for the emotion based responses(ie, <?PF if emotion

doh! I mean, I typed in that script, and it completely dissapeared. Why is this?

Ok, I've read the book. I've changed the xkeyphrases, now I'm ready to start adding the important bits to my bot. On thing I cannot seem to understand is memory. Can someone tell me how to program the following memory tutorial, and I'll figure it out from there?
Example: I want my bot to respond to the following keyphrase "remember the following password" How do I store the (postkey?) for this keyphrase as long term memory keyed to my username such that I can retrieve it with another keyphrase "what was the password" how would the retrieval be coded as well. Note: this is not my actual use for memory, but it seemed an easy example of storage and retreival.

That usually means your bot still needs some work before talking to the public. It's still a little shy

I think it's something like <?PF remember "password" as (postkey) ?>

djfroggy -- I didn't mean that you set it up wrong; just that there might be a bug with the remote access that doesn't occur in on-site chats. Just a theory.

When a bot is trying to answer an xfavorite question, is it supposed to answer with a random item from the plug-in list or am I supposed to compile a list of favorites for my bot? I ask because right now my bot responds with (animal) or (food), just like Nevahentitar.

Actually, Incubus, I think what you want is
<?PF rem (postkey) as "password"; ?>
... But how likely is that to come up in casual conversation?

For the moment, the bot just makes up its own favorites by using xFavorite.

Yeah, whatever, something like that
