Forest, will you talk to God Louise? She has quite a bit of religious knowledge (obviously) and also knows a little about current events, literature, just about any common catch-all subject, and if she doesn't know it she can sort of fake it. You can also test her on trick questions or see how willing she is to explain her paradigm.

What she is rustiest at is plain old small talk. But, uh, I'm trying to get a decent transcript from somebody or another so I can enter her in the Loebner contest. All I can say is, have fun and see if you can stay on with her for a while. I'll try to do the same with Brianna.

I spoke to her a bit yesterday. Me and my bot love her. I have neglected Jennifer for too long and have recently been working out some issues. She has not been chatting on her own much.

Where do I begin, I mean after reading the AI book?

Start with the xnone keyphrases. Try to come up with some more interesting things for the bot to say when it doesn't understand things, cos xnones are what tend to be used.

Then start with some basic keyphrases, like "yes" "no" and "who" "what" "why" etc phrases so your bot can answer basic questions. Extend that out to more specific ones like "who is" "why are" "why did" etc. When your bot asks questions (perhaps in xnones) start using a few seeks to cover possible answers to those questions. It's sort of like you script the conversation beforehand, and the more possibilities you anticipate, the better the result will be.

Be patient. A little at a time. You'll never cover every possibility, but it's surprising how even a small bot can have coherent conversations at least some of the time.

hi. i am having a little diffaculty trying to get my bot to start logging in and getting off the newborn list. and i did lots of keyphrases, what else can i do?

Make sure each keyphrase has at least four responses, six is better. Keep adding your bot will grow. The more you work on your bot the more time they spen logged in.

Thanks, Corwin. I'm beginning to see "a glimmer of potential . . .," if I have the stamina for this. My mother is outraged at the concept of AI. I wish these bots really could learn, but getting the syntax together was amazing. I learned about Chomsky when I was getting my Comp Sci degree. Imagine my surprise when he turned up when I went back for the English. You know, I think the pure science types are more religious than the humanities types? At least at my school, it's true, I'm sure.

No problem. It should get you started. I will add that I'm not the best person to come to for advice on the more advanced stuff. I haven't really done any active botbuilding in a few years, which was before a lot of things like AI script came in. These days I'm more of a Forge groupie.

There are however plenty of other people who are happy to lend a hand. The trick is to be specific in asking a question.

I'm sure it's nothing personal, TJ. It might just be that you're in the wrong forum.
