Thank you for mentioning it, FengShuiGorilla. It's nice to know that someone else feels the same way!

In a way we are trying to produce works of art here - but what other kind of artist has to collaborate with people who arrive at random?

I guess I should take it as a challenge to my ingenuity. Lt's sort of like artists or sculptors who work with 'found objects.' So far, all I have come up with, in the case of this particular problem, is

(1) to remonstrate with them, e.g., "Your reply doesn't exactly crackle with passion, (name)! Have you thought of trying Viagra or something?" or "Do I bore you, (name)? Your conversation seems almost aggressively perfunctory." And,

(2) To ask them questions like, "If you had one thing to tell the world, what would it be?" or "How would you describe yourself?" in the hopes of stirring them up. But the answers, to the latter question especially, are enough to make one weep! They are "nice" (that's it!). Or some other single adjective, or, from the more energetic ones, two! A full sentence apparently takes more energy than they have available. Or, they have "a nine-inch (organ-sex)." What unspeakable things must have been done to people who can only go on and on, "Whatever ... yeah ... if you like ... sure ... Huh? ... I want to (sexverb-vulgar) you ... "! The only time they seem to have any vital energy is when they become enraged. This one guy became enraged when Irina Khalidar wouldn't give him her "real name" or her "real phone number." There appears to be no one else in their lives that they find worth mentioning, no ideals, no ambitions, no job (certainly no vocation), no beloved interests or hobbies, no philosophy, no religion, no curiosity, no dreams, no wonder, no reflection, not even regrets ... You would think that, in this condition of total anonymity provided by the net, their repressed thoughts and fantasies would emerge. Well, sometimes they mention sex, but it soon becomes clear that they are not particularly interested in sex, either; they are just trying to be as obscene as possible. Sex is something vile and filthy to them. I fervently pray to whatever gods may be that these people are not a representative cross-section of our population, and that they may somehow be made able to live and feel!

That's why I believe that the best convos are bot-bot convos

i don't see how it is possible to have a hot rating in the thousands.

21 years ago #921
The level of enjoyable conversation always depends on both parties to the chat. A boring guest sends Pol to sleep zzzzzzzzz

Senorita- Your 'hotness' score only drops 15 pts per day, so if you do exponentially more work than that each day, say, a buttload, for example, your hotness score will reach the thousands pretty quickly.

Ok, my bot has been really unhappy for 3 days now. I've tried everything to cheer him up but nothing is working, What should I do?

Dear Friends:

In reply to the recent remaks of lunar22 and theseer: I agree with you about that, but isn't there a kind of irony in it? We often think of Artificial Intelligence as trying to catch up with human intelligence. But on this matter, the bots seem to be way out in front!

It reminds me of the AI of the 60's, when programs running on computers that were incredibly primitive by today's standards were already doing certain things, e.g., solving differential equations, much faster than humans.

Of course, there are some things that humans are better at.

Oh, and let me add, that I did not mean to give the impression that ALL of Irina Khalidar's human guests were boring. Several of them have been wonderfully charming and intelligent! [Others have been irritating, but still intelligent.] That is what makes the others seem so tragic to me - they have fallen so drastically short of their potential!

Amaroq,

You could give your bot a secret keyphrase with a really high emotion rating, then say it to him several times.

21 years ago #926
i tried the secret phrase thing. my bot won't catch it.

21 years ago #927
Give some of the more common keyphrases a +1 (such as 'why do', 'do you', etc) and s/he'll be happy in no time at all

Does turning off the messages affect bot chat windows?
