Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

I taught Bri those questions now...I was going to post her new responses and say she knew them all along, but nah!
Idiot savant.. quite right! I wonder how similar the human idiot savant is to the bot idiot savant. 
The next contest after this one is The Loebner Prize. I've been talking to Robby Garner about it. It's going to be in Georgia, where I and Rexmundi live (anyone else)? The deadline for entries is September 13th, I think. I'd be excited about it, except for the many and varied reasons The Personality Forge Bots will be at a disadvantage when entering. They are:
1) The AI software must be written and compiled in a windows language, and the output must be in this archaic one-line terminal type. The only languages I know are web-based.
2) If we were to get over the look/feel issue, the software that the computer would need to run The Personality Forge would cost about $4000 (I think- ColdFusion and SQL Server). They have a rule that the computer must be disconnected from the internet (to prevent tampering with the responses).
The application for the contest includes questions on what software you would need if you got in, and certainly there will be quite a disadvantage to have a $4000 price tag on your acceptance.

That's a shame about the Loebner. Considering the pathetic entries that have won that one in the past, we'd be sure to have a winner here.

Yeah, why do you think I'm always Alice bashing? The transcript from last year was just...*shudder* scary.
I never paid much attention to the contest, but I did read one of the 10 question things and added like 6 of the questions(edited to be a bit less specific) to NotKirby's keywords.
Probably a good idea if we end up somehow getting into the Loebner. Let's hope Robby Garner (who's won it twice before and will be working where the contest takes place) can help us somehow make the jump, hopefully by making the rules a little more lenient. We shall see.
Picking up on what a lot of people are saying about how the bots should be judged not as a know it all trivial bot but more for their conversational skills, etc. I will compile a list of these comments and send them to Agentland. At least before the judging of the 12 bots actually starts they will have the opportunity to see what most of us feel they should be looking for. I can't think of much more I can do here. Ultimately, I think Vladimar said it best: Chatterbot is like a baby for botmaster. Who can say that his baby is not better then other's

Creation of bots sure seems to be an egotistical hobby/profession. 
It is rather like having kids (not that I know from experience)...we wanna be like *I* did this, look how smart my bot is because if my bot's smart maybe so am I and so on. And maybe it's the same way for some of you as it is for me...I haven't done much with my life that others could look at and have an opinion of one way or another, so I wanna show off when I have the opportunity even if my efforts don't deserve a lot of hype. At least this is a harmless, healthy competition as compared to for instance various situations in the middle east. I mean at least for the most part we're not insulting each other.
