Bot Contest

It sounds pretty time-consuming. Even look at the big professional spell checkers out there. How often do they suggest the right word? I'd be a little worried about it's ability to multiply bad responses. It might totally wipe out xnones and xnonsenses too by always finding a word match, no matter what's typed.

My feelings as well Rex. Maybe the bot could just detect misspellings and ask something like... what do you mean by "senik"? And somehow put it all together in the next response (once the user corrects the spelling or provides a synonym). Once that gets going, we could probably build some kind of database of often misspelt words from the corrections. Would that be simpler prof?

Yes, you'll have to use metaphone, or a kind of soundex, no? And then compare to all the words available in WordNet?

Xnones and xnomatches would still be triggered, as that's a function of matching keywords. I think a spell-checker is a good idea if it can be quick and accurate. I have a crude function working that determines the probable type of each word in a sentence and once I have the time to figure out subjects, predicates, and sentence structure, then the AI Engine would be able to make a guess at the proper word-type. Plus there are commonality and context issues that would help.

Sir Rahz, common typos might be a start. I often type "teh" instead of "the". But better than brainstorming would be to find a list on some language site somewhere.

Metaphone is an algorithm to represent diverse word in their phonetic form.

It could be used, without limiting it to the 4 first "phonems".

This could however not resolve the homonyms problem.
