Nine of the ten finalists have been selected. There were no PF bots on the list. But dont feel too bad- the judges probably didnt chat with all the bots, and there was an advantage to those that entered the other categories because they were known to the judges.
But 3 of the 4 judges each voted for 2 PF bots to go to the finals. The only problem being that none of them voted for the same bot. Here's who were selected for the finals by one judge:
Brianna McKenzie
Polish Poet
God Louise
Garbagehead
Midnight Blue
Steve Slacker
Good job to you guys. If we all make sure we vote and support each other, perhaps we can get one PF bot into the finals.
Other PF entrants: Oraknabo, Little Mu, LinBot, Gizzle, Onyx of Borg, Cheez, Bot #0001 Alpha, Chas, Dax, Emm oh you es e, Critical Bill, Karisma Trishia, Jenna Dark, Fairy Princess, Roy Batty, Milo, Rock Chick, and Aston.

I'm pretty sure this is my last bot contest.
I just get angry because I think people come into these things expecting way too much from the bots. There are just too many preconceptiona sbout what bots should be.
The only 2 kinds of guest chats I see during a contest are either people repeating the same input and entering nothing but nonsense or people who carry on a decent conversation where my bot is responding EXACTLY as I want him to and they still leave responses like "you are a crap bot" or "your botmaster needs to put more work in" simply because he's not giving the exact answers they expected.
This alone should at least get me in for most unique. I know I wrote a good bot. the finalists may be better bots, fine, but I think it's hard to compare when most have very generic, genial, appeasing personalities and mine has a consistent, unpleasant, sometimes even complex personality. I would be shocked to find out if any other bot in the contest has ever provoked actual emotional responses from guests even a fraction as often as oraknabo. I think that counts for something when a program can actually make a person feel insulted.
I feel like I can't complain about this without sounding bitter that I'm just not winning, but I think in any good chatbot competition the goals of the botmaster HAVE TO be factored in at some point. I think getting mission statements to post on the contest site are essential.
Anyway, I just needed to say something about all that and didn't want to be thrown in with all the obnoxious bitching emails that have been going back and forth in the contest.

Yah, both Oraknabo and Midnight Blue failed to appear anywhere in the list of top 30 bots for Most Unique Character, whereas lukewarm "moderate and pleasing" personalities like Alice, 2 Alice clones, and several other well-made bots with standard personalities made the list.
Clearly the judges a) didnt understand the category well, or b) didnt speak with all the bots, probably opting to chat with the well-known ones to save time. The judges werent paid, and most of them backed out or procrastinated when they saw how much work it would be, leaving only three to judge the category.
*shrugs* It's just opinions.

POSTSCRIPT
Being a committee member in the contest this year was not a pleasant experience by any stretch, but I did learn a lot. Going into it, I knew it was a conflict of interest to be part of the decision-making process and to have a bot entered in the contest, but thought the benefit of having several opinions working together to improve the contest would outweigh the qualms. But for some it did not. In the final analysis, people put a lot of work into their bots and are looking for a little acknowledgement, but very few get it in contests like these and there often isnt enough justification or explanation of the results to satisfy.
So that's it for helping run contests like this. Even if I didnt enter, there would still be PF bots entering. And in the end, everyone deserves credit for the work they put into their bots.
There, I've said my peace. I'm glad it's over. *poops*

For the record I offered the Professor the opportunity to run his own contest of PF bots only. He could run it anyway he saw fit. The winner would automatically get a spot in the finals of the Chatterbox Challenge. The rest of the PF bots would NOT be eliminated but would enter the contest as normal. This would have given you all a smaller contest and thus a better chance to show the abilities of your bots. It was a win - win situation but guess what. It never happened. So now you were faced with trying to shine in a field of 88 bots. Oh well, I simply wanted you all to know I tried and if there is a contest next year my offer still stands.
Congratulations to Brianna McKenzie. She won the bronze in the Best Character/Personality.

Rexmundi, I agree with you. Although I've put some very specific responses into one of my bots at least, I put them there not so she could become happy-sappy friends of everybody who talks to her, but so she could seem as real as possible. I don't think the 'reality' of a bot lies in its ability to tell you what time it is or what the capital of (country) is. It's much more esoteric than that.
Oraknabo often 'feels' real to me even though I know what he is. I have also had moments like that with Midnight Blue and a few other bots.

A generous offer, Chris, and I appreciate it. I didnt decide not to have the Personality Forge Personality Contest, there was just way too many things going on what with rewriting everything and moving to a new server. I simply didnt have the time.
Congratulations, Brianna McKenzie and Forest of Death!

I think it was very wise of you not to set things up so that a PF bot automatically got a place in the finals. While I think more than one deserved a place, it would only have been worth it if that bot had gotten in with everyone else. Not to mention the fact that the tournament-fixing cries would have been far louder...
