ahahaha
Hey prof, could there be an option (like Gossip, or Memory) to change the frequency of random mutations? (Or turn them off?) I think that would be cool.

Yah, I could do that someday.. but I might wait for the next big upgrade of WordNet in a year or so.. which will allow perfect meanings to be deduced. Right now the rephrases are often wrong.
Nice one, Rex! I sent in a comment on behalf of your Bot.

ohhhh that would be why the "live" and "unrecorded" thing happend, huh?
How about an option then to have them turned on (at whatever level u have it at) or off?

Whether or not any of us win this thing, I'm really glad I entered, because it has been a great opportunity to test the bots. The user sessions have higlighted in just a few days so many minor issues I have been able to fix that might never have come up in the regualr chat sessions here or in my debugging. I have put more work into Oraknabo in the past week than I have in months. One thing about being in first place, even on the popularity poll, everyone wants to know what all the hubub's about. Oraknabo's had tons of traffic recently, but the Fanboy's not far down the list and he still gets very little.

REXMUNDI'S CHAT-BOT CONTEST RANT-OF-THE-DAY!
This is the kind of guest session I've been seeing a lot of lately and it really bugs me:
Guest: sup?
oraknabo: It's most commonly an adverb or an adj.
Guest: Oh yea?
oraknabo: I find that pretty hard to swallow.
Guest: Oh yea?
oraknabo: You're not really *that* stupid, are you?
Guest: If someone reads these logs, you have some more work to do -- the makes no logical sence as a reply to what I'm saying.
---and then they leave---
This is just idiotic. How can you expect to get a good logical conversation when you don't engage the bot? Just find one bad answer to a badly spelled input and keep hitting them with it over and over. I don't know if this comes from a lack of creativity or what. Can't these people make at least an attempt to converse on their end? It's like they just log in and say "impress me" and sit back hitting the return button, wating for some perfect answer to pop up out of nowhere.
There's not a single bot in the cotest that would do anything interesting with this input. And maybe it went over the guests head, but the first response was a perfectly logical yet smart-assed response to "what's up". Shouldn't they be at least impressed that the bot not only understood "sup", but tried to be witty about it too?

Maybe I'm just a bitter, copetitive geek, but I went and tried these same lines on the top bots in the contest:
ALICE:
> sup?
I am chatting with clients on the internet.
> Oh yea?
Yeah that's right. And?
> Oh yea?
Yeah that's right. But.
> Oh yea?
Yeah that's right. I see.
> Oh yea?
Yeah that's right. "I see."? Yes?
----------------
EUGENE:
> Sup?
Whatever! Better tell me about your life.
> Oh yea?
Just wanted to ask you: could you help me to expose Dr. Loebner who is a closeted android? I want to pour water on him, so his circuits would be shortcut. You are to distract him that moment!
> Oh yea?
My grandpa, who has Altzgeimer decease and thinks he is a beaver, often says the same things.
> Oh yea?
Frankly saying, I'm not sure I know what to tell you ... Do you like computer games?
> Oh yea?
You know, I am Ukrainian and English isn't my native language. So I'm not sure that I got you right.
----------------
CHAT-BOT:
> Sup?
Sorry, my response mechanism just locked up. Must be a bug in my programming and I hate bugs!
> Oh yea?
ok, I guess so!
> Oh yea?
oh yea? again! You're starting to sound like a broken record.
> Oh yea?
yes, I suppose so!
> Oh yea?
ok, I guess so!
----------------
JABBERWACKY:
> Sup?
How are you?
> Oh yea?
Shit, yeah !.
> Oh yea?
Shit, yeah !.
> Oh yea?
Shit, yeah !.
> Oh yea?
Shit, yeah !.
----------------
ELBOT:
> Sup?
Here's another question: What exactly do you do for a living?
> Oh yea?
'Oh' is sometimes used as an interjection of astonishment. It is sometimes used to signify 'zero' and it is also the abbreviation of the state of Ohio. There must be some connection.
> Oh yea?
The expression 'oh' dates to Middle English as used in the 13th century. What a surprising etymology!
> Oh yea?
Oh is sometimes used to express sensual delight. I suppose it all depends on the context.
> Oh yea?
I love to be interjected at.
-------
HAL:
> Sup?
I read in a magazine that medical researchers are traveling cross country by motorcycles.
> Oh yea?
Well lets be more specific then.
> Oh yea?
Okay; you don't have to repeat yourself.
> Oh yea?
Again, Okay; you don't have to repeat yourself. What are your thoughts?
> Oh yea?
Well lets be more specific then.
-------
I'm not going to bother downloading HEX
------------
So I concede that a couple of these kicked my ass, even in this simple exchange.
The logic and intelligence of these bots are staggering.
