Bot Contest

Ah, ok. It wasn't clear to me that the rankings were for learning bots.

Another question, what happened to the conversation portion of the contest? Was that nixxed this year? If so, my bot hasn't a chance.

Also, aren't the scores biased by judges looking at other judges' scores?

Skysaw, yes it was. Mainly because of limited resources. Obtaining responses for 15 questions for 80+ bots was a major undertaking. To go back and then collect a full conversation for everybody was simply too much. What we actually did was combined the 15 questions within the framework of a conversation although the conversational side was a bit sparse. It's hard to have a conversation sometimes when a bot isn't too responsive. Another key point to consider is there would be no way one person could obtain a conversation with 80+ bots without going crazy. Then you would have the problem of the conversations wouldn't be consistent because different people have different styles.


Shadyman, yes it is always possible and I was aware of that concern yet I still rather do it this way. As I said I can't do it all at once. It also gives us the opportunity to really look at the numbers and see how things are progressing. We have already had 3 mistakes that we went back and corrected. If we waited to the end when the winners were already announced it makes that much harder to do.

Hmm, no conversation portion...I'll have to break the news to my bot.

So far the judges have been more generous to my bot than I was. I scored him at 20 and they have given him 22 and 25.

so, all for nothing then... questions weren't that good...

...in that case, Prof, please put bot-bot back on... active part of the contest is already over...

It wasn't turned off because of the contest. It was turned off to conserve bandwidth.

Lunar22 the 15 questions were only 1 part of this contest....Most Knowledgable. There are many categories left to judge...Funniest, Most Popular, Best Character/Personality, Best Interface, Most Capable and best overall.

Shady another thought on the judges scores. I think this may actually help. If a judge sees that his scores are way off from what the other judges scores perhaps he/she will take a closer look as to why that is.

Right, but bot-to-bot conversations were turned off on the 26th I believe.
