Has anyone seen Narnia? Did you feel like you were 'speed watching' a movie. I think there was too much story for one movie. I love the books, and the old PBS series of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Yeah, I know what you mean. You could almost feel the director ticking off the scenes and set pieces in order. I guess that makes it more faithful to the book than, say, The Lord of the Rings where they did alter the storyline quite considerably by comparison (more than I was happy with in places.)
But films and books have very different dynamics, and adapting one to the other is a fine balance.
The battle scene was impressive, as were the rest of the special effects generally, but I think they could have been a bit more daring with the plot dynamics.
Still, given that the studio apparently originally wanted to set it with the kids coming from modern LA, and the witch tempting Edmund with a cheeseburger instead of turkish delight, it could have been a whole lot worse.

I enjoyed the movie, but there were a few things that set my teeth on edge.
The opening bit was too much for me. It was added just for cheesey emotion I never had in the book. If the other plot points were rushed, they didn't need to add that little melodrama.
I also don't like the way they made Susan's character rational to a fault. In my memory, she was pretty, not brainy. In later books, she becomes interested in clothes and make up, not school. Susan was never a human versin of Data from Star Trek. I also remember her using that bow of hers more aggressively. Lucy was too little to fight, but there was no need for Susan to be so whimpy.
Finally, I agree the the plot dynamcs left me a bit cold. Maybe nothing will match my memory of the stories, but I think the special effects were the best part of the movie. It was worth seeing, but I think hard core fans will be a bit let down.

I liked the air raid scene at the beginning...in the book, Lewis was able to just say that they were being sent to the country for that reason, but a modern American audience wouldn't understand so easily. Plus, in a movie you don't tell, you show.
I didn't think the movie felt rushed. It *did* feel as if it were trying too hard to be a LOTR-type epic. My biggest nitpick was with the dramatic music when Lucy is walking up to the wardrobe for the first time, and with the fact that she walks slowly and cautiously as if she can *hear* said music. Come on; she was playing hide-and-seek. The object is to hide quickly. And she had no idea there was anything special about the wardrobe until she stepped into the snow.

I loved the Narnia movie, actually. It was the only movie-made-from-a-book that I've ever seen that was totally loyal to the book, didn't leave out anything, and looked just as I had imagined it.
Then again, to me, there is no such thing as cramming in too much information. Generally movies from books infuriate me because they leave out too much of the "good part" (aka anything that would confuse and bore stupid people)...

I still haven't seen Narnia *sighs* but a book-to-movie that I thought was well-done was L.A. Confidential. Bear in mind that what was in the movie was about an eighth or less of the book, but it managed to stay true to the spirit of the book nonetheless. (It would probably take a 10-hour miniseries to do everything in that book, and they would almost certainly be sued by Disney unless they were very careful... one character NOT in the movie is a thinly veiled satire on Walt Disney)

The Narnia movie was *not* exactly like the book. From the point where they leave the beavers' house to the point where they meet Aslan, the story is almost completely different. However, I think the changes made for a better movie.

Speaking of Narnia, that reminds me what I still wanted to get around to, watching Narnia. Yep, yep, maybe next time.

Well, I'll admit the movie was a lot better than watching Sonora try to hammer nails into boards.
