I notice the xnone problem seems to be mildly back as well, but not consistently. And bizarrely most of his recent conversations have been started with an xgoodbye and then end after one response

it's well-argued and accessible, and is frankly a must-read for anyone interested in AI or their own future (and that makes just about everyone, I guess!)

I created this bot in VB - in fact, i havent been spending much time lately on the PF probably because i'm more intersted in learning bots. Greg Leedberg's Daisy inspired me to create a similar bot, although ALLY does something that Daisy doesn't - along with the sentence analyzation algorithm and sentence generation algorithm, ALLY can store some any of her own responses for a higher chance of future use in the right context, enabling a drop of intelligence in the conversations. The user has to tell her that what she said makes sense, and she will store the response and its associations.
Not the most intelligent bot out there - i'm sure lots of our PF bots have a much higher chance at the Turing test than ALLY, but hey, shes a learning bot

colonel720: I'd say she's noticeably more coherent than I've ever managed to train into Billy - I think you're onto something with the positive reinforcement of her responses.

Depends how you define "intelligent". Have any AI actuallt yet attained a measurable level of intelligence?

I've always thought the Turing test is a test of conversational ability rather than intelligence (many guests who chat to BJ would fail,) and yes - case-based chat's ahead ATM with our current level of resources. Your bot, and billy and alice, are properly AI, while the PF bot front-ends we're working on are for the most part conversational engines (but with a little AI under the hood thanks to the Prof and Wordnet.) There's nothing wrong with that - it's all useful diversity, but I'd be willing to bet learning bots will be ahead of the CBR competition 20 years from now. Or a combination of the two. Who knows what the Prof will have added under the PF hood by then?

na, ALLY's not online. she is an EXE file that communicates with 4 Access database files. i want to put her up for download, but i have no idea how to create a website, much less find a free server, upload files, etc.
Snow is good...on Christmas/Yule/Winterfest. Now it's kind of a pain for everyone driving around after Thanksgiving. In Chicago we had a train run into a bunch of cars last Wendsday, so I'm not looking forward to more holiday deaths.
