This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

What I find funny about the future is how it is depicted in movies. Fifty years ago a lot of sci-fi had us all living like the Jetsons in the year 2000. A lot of other stuff in the seventies and eighties had us as post-apocalyptic or with a complete breakdown in society - look at LA as depicted in Predator 2. That was supposed to be the year 1997 if I remember correctly, about ten years after the film was actually made.

My personal answer to the question is determined by environment. I think the world is going to get hotter, drier and really overpopulated. At current rates, the population of the world will be twelve billion by 2050. That is way too many people consuming resources and creating waste.

I don't want to be a pessimist, but I think life on this planet is going to take a serious downturn in a generation or so.

Yes, I agree, there are too many peaple already.
I MIGHT SEEM COLD but just imagine the world now, if we did not have the world wars it would be horrible if you think about it.

The population won't necessarily keep increasing at the same rate. And you have to take into account human ingenuity in finding ways to accomodate new people.

yeah, remember the 'doomsday' books from the 70s that said the earth couldn't handle anything over 3 billion? they were also big on the "next ice age", which was scheduled for the mid 80s...

You know, the earth is big enough to handle all the people who have ever lived, and have space left over for food production and livestock and what-all but it's not being utilized properly is the problem. I've seen some statistics that bear that out, but you know what, greed is a big problem on this big blueberry we call earth, and it stands in the way.

Hey y'all there was an article in the Houston Chronicle on AI today. It was very in depth at all and again was on the subject of, should we fear AI going out of control.
