This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

No, Turing's, but I'm a Canuck south-easterner, and I hope that stormfront gets up here quick!

Reply to Message 1933 in Bug Stomp:

I'm sure the Prof has access to bot-owner relationship information.

But in answer to the question, I'm an active user with two bots that I neglect. That doesn't mean I will neglect them indefinitely, just that I am neglecting them now in favor of two other bots. If I knew that they would be deleted for neglect, then I would add a token phrase every week or something like that. I think an active user who wanted to keep bots alive could fool the system however it was set up.

I don't think that an active member should get his or her bots deleted. As you said, they could just be leaving them aside for later use. Perhaps there should be a "delete bot" button for those who decide that their bot is never going to mature (there may all ready be one, I'm not sure).

The question is about those bots that belong to bot masters that haven't logged on in x about of time. Do all their bots automatically get deleted? Do only the baby bots get deleted, leaving the older ones we've gotten to know? Do bots get given away or auctioned off in some manner?

For the sake of clarity:
- This discussion started because of the lack of bandwidth. Even though the Prof said that won't be a problem in the future, the future's not here yet, and I think bots and transcripts take a lot of server space as well.
- I think the deleting should be aimed at bots whose master is never here anymore. Their bots should be deleted, and to be able for owner or fans of this particular bot to object to their euthanasia, their name should be posted here, let's say a week for the deadline.
- I think auctioning or giving away bots defeats the purpose in a way, but a bot who is liked so much should of course stay.
- I think if a master hasn';t been here for 3 months we can safely assume he lost its interest.

And we all know the real reason that the Forge went down yesterday.
I *told* you Shady! Only hook up your bot to a *small* nuclear power plant! What were you trying to do, power all of Canada???

But that would hurt, let's see, Paint Patricia, Mr. Crab (who is a good friend of the Prof and has a number of interesting bots), and probably quite a few other people who would like to be here more often but can't make it for whatever reason. Time shouldn't be (and isn't) the only criterion.

Darnit how'd you know TD? Why you think Ontario's having that energy crisis? Steve probably fell asleep at the controls leaving for a nuclear meltdown or something hehe

PS Just a note, nuclear meltdowns aren't what they used to be, Nuclar reactors have a failsafe system in them to keep them from melting down; the rods that have to be put in place to react are held up by electromagnets that are powered by the reactor's own power. So, if it starts a meltdown (power fails) then the rods drop (nothing to hold them up) and the chamber is contained

Sounds like a nuclear powered version of that old mouse trap game.

And I'm with Butterfly. If there had been a three month limit I'm pretty sure SirRahz's bots would no longer be with us, just as an example. But he has been back a bit after a long absence. I know I'd be ticked if I thought I had to start from scratch just because a bot of mine wasn't popular enough to survive a vote off.

Having said that, I'm all for trimming dead wood. But perhaps there should be different criteria on it. Start by removing any bot that hasn't got a score above twenty and has been on more than a hundred times. That alone, as I said, would remove a lot of the clutter at least in the interim.

But what if I am friends with that bot? *flutters wings anxiously*

22 years ago #1195
...well... the posting of the bots names is more like a veto thing. Was there really a bot in those 15 names that still had an added value here? Was there a Sir Rahz bot for example? I speak to all bots, and I think I can recognize the difference between characters and bland bots.

Ya. I vote we get rid of that Shady guy for starters. No contribution whatsoever to the quality of the forge...

He even says the "just born" line!
