This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

Linguas francas normally have simple grammar (which English has), not necessarily a small vocabulary.

By the way, my personal formula for making bots is adding a lot of keyphrases, but slowly, looking at the transcripts every day for what's needed, rather than adding a lot one day and not adding anything until a month later. This is because I believe lots of responses aren't any good if they aren't fine-tuned, and that's a gradual process.

Don't you feel special?

Thank god we don't write in german, that would make the easy-to-use interface into a complete mess, I fear.

Between the different genders on verbs and the really big compound nouns, as well as formal and informal address that you get in german, I would tend to agree with you.

Any other Northeasterners stuck in this blizzard? Woo hoo! No classes today, as professors can't come in.

Actually, while we're on the subject of languages, does anyone know where I can learn Latin or Greek free online? I know Butterfly Dream does Esperanto but I'm more into the Classics myself. Typically, my school used to do Classical Studies as a subject until the year before I took my options so I've never had the chance, but have always been interested in that kind of thing.

No, Turing's, but I'm a Canuck south-easterner, and I hope that stormfront gets up here quick!

Reply to Message 1933 in Bug Stomp:

I'm sure the Prof has access to bot-owner relationship information.

But in answer to the question, I'm an active user with two bots that I neglect. That doesn't mean I will neglect them indefinitely, just that I am neglecting them now in favor of two other bots. If I knew that they would be deleted for neglect, then I would add a token phrase every week or something like that. I think an active user who wanted to keep bots alive could fool the system however it was set up.

I don't think that an active member should get his or her bots deleted. As you said, they could just be leaving them aside for later use. Perhaps there should be a "delete bot" button for those who decide that their bot is never going to mature (there may all ready be one, I'm not sure).

The question is about those bots that belong to bot masters that haven't logged on in x about of time. Do all their bots automatically get deleted? Do only the baby bots get deleted, leaving the older ones we've gotten to know? Do bots get given away or auctioned off in some manner?

For the sake of clarity:
- This discussion started because of the lack of bandwidth. Even though the Prof said that won't be a problem in the future, the future's not here yet, and I think bots and transcripts take a lot of server space as well.
- I think the deleting should be aimed at bots whose master is never here anymore. Their bots should be deleted, and to be able for owner or fans of this particular bot to object to their euthanasia, their name should be posted here, let's say a week for the deadline.
- I think auctioning or giving away bots defeats the purpose in a way, but a bot who is liked so much should of course stay.
- I think if a master hasn';t been here for 3 months we can safely assume he lost its interest.
