I couldn't find the link Eugene. By the way, do you use Mac or PC with Explorer? I've never tried the forge on a PC.

I just went through the weird symptom in the forums with OmniWeb too. I read the 4 forums on the bottom starting with Seasons and then when I went up to the bug stomp forum, it reloaded Dogh'd's forum... Perhaps 'cause of the order I went through them or the fact that I posted a couple messages in the forum that "stuck". Anyways, loading the bug forum in a new window loaded the correct page (here I am).

Uhmm... I can't keep my mouth shut on this one, but I'll try to not let my exuberance show too much here...

I think it's good to somewhat boycott any company that tries to become "the only option". Each one of us has the responsibility to ensure that variety is predominant in these modern times. Variety is strength - Microsoft can only be the strongest *sometimes*, otherwise it'll become a weakness for all of us and eventually, even itself. 'nuff said.

Every company tries to dominate the market. It's called capitalism.

I use a Windows based computer; I've very little experience with Macs and can't make a comparison.

Did you find the website itself?

Prof... Mischievous Faeries are rampant (Yes, Faerie is another correct spelling of fairy)

I also have observed entire flocks of the little things. I think we need a good pesticide...

Hey Eugine, I found the link! Looks like Ben Baird is having a little trouble with HTML compliancy... His HTML coding doesn't respect any of w3c standards! He's saying he doesn't want to waste time making things compatible for "inferior quality" browsers, which he seems to define as anything that doesn't render the HTML codes Microsoft invented. The World Wide Web Consortium (w3c) was created specifically to avoid that the Internet be monopolized by a single entity who's main intent is to make profit. Here's a good page that quickly sums up their goals: http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Points/ (Check out point #4)

My girlfriend and I have been designing web sites for over 5 years and every site we've ever built has been designed and tested with a Mac, a PC with Netscape and Explorer. (iCab and the rest of them aren't having any trouble respecting the w3c standards, although are having some problems controlling the flexibility of JavaScript, they are however getting more and more compatible as well). Call my bluff? Here's a site we built in '97 which hasn't been updated since and is still compatible with anything you through at it (http://www.3333graham.com). And if you're thinking that site is cute, but looks pretty basic, here's another one which is entirely database driven with a search tool, order processing and a hidden administration section where the "artist" can go and edit the content of his site (http://www.dwightbaird.com). Oh awright, they may not be completely bugless, but they're a little softer on the eyes at least! In my opinion, the lazy bunch over at VBThunder should open there minds to the world around them. I don't want to sound cocky, I'm only mentioning this 'cause I think Ben's arguments are what's making a mess of the web and I wouldn't want anyone to take what he's saying for granted.

Sounds like Explorer for Windows doesn't have that same JavaScript problem as on the Mac - 'cause you'd sure notice it!

You're right, every company does try and dominate the market, but do you think that's... a good thing?

Rahz, it's a very good thing. But may I suggest we move this discussion into the Seasons forum where we won't clog up the bugstompin'?

Okay, my reply is in Seasons.

More of a strategic than a tactical question here: is it necessary for each maker to reinvent (or learn to invent) the wheel? I would rather have a way of copying and pasting proven programs and then turning my bot loose to learn from other bots and programmers. For example, if bot x has the best English usage and appropriate interpretation based on context, in other words, the best CBR, I want to copy and paste that bot's mind rather than build the whole thing from scratch. Look, that Alice bot has been around for years and she's still dumb as a rock. There must be a better way...

Hey Rick, that would not really be a bug, probly belongs in the AI Engine or Personality forum, but I would just say while we share tips, no one wants their bot copied wholesale. As far as I know, also, nobody's advanced a science of keyphrases or rankings yet, so it's hard to decide what model (to the extent some folks are even sing models) is the best.

Besides building your own bot is the fun of it! But we're hardly starting from scratch here -- there's a huge and growing infrastructure on which our bots rest, improving all the time, thanks to the Professor.

Crab, thanks for your input, and did you get my reply on the "arranged" bot convos?

This is something I came across a couple of days ago when going through my bot's transcripts. It's not a bug per se, but I thought it was worth bringing up.

One of my bot's memory statements was entered as Liddora says I'm "the cutest one on here." (She actually did say that to him once, so I wasn't just trying to boost my bot's ego).
This is how it has appeared in conversations my bot has had on several occasions, including as recently as Tuesday. However on Wednesday the statement came up in a conversation as "Liddora thinks I'm the one on here". Somehow, a word was dropped. The phrase is still down in my bot's inner life as it was originally entered. I'm just curious as to how it could be possible for this glitch to crop up.
