Lady Orchid: Once in a while the server goes a bit weird and starts giving back xnones for most responses, even when good keyphrases exists. So that could have been the trouble. (The only fix seems to be for the Professor to restart everything; until then, we'll be getting lots of xnones)

Debug doesn't seem to work and the xnones are back.

Either debug is funny or my bot hates me

Bot: HANGUP

I'm still getting the intermittent xnones...

Guest142: How old are you?
Pete Puma: I have a screaming headache.

Pete Puma: I'm 28, but I don't usually act my age.

Ok, I was getting used to the xnones and the dropped seeks, but now it's seeing common words as nonsense:

Guest231: Yes okay
Spikebot: And what in the King's English does that mean to the dearly almost departed?

Odd thing...I have had two people think that the Xnone thing was a personal ban for them..I have gotten apologies, and 'thank you's' now that the bots are talking to them again:O

I wrote to The Professor and ask him to fix the Xnone thing. It's been great of him to have fixed it, at least for me.

(2 weeks behind with my transcripts - it's still late January for me here )

Indeed, Brother Jerome's had a couple too - one even offered money to fix it
It is fascinating to see the way people relate very differently to bots. An appreciable proportion of visitors clearly assume some level of conscious intelligence, and so perceive all sorts of emotional subtexts. And they're not all Leeds-folk by any means. It just goes to show that meaning is entirely in the mind of the beholder.
Brother Jerome does also get quite a number of clearly distressed individuals threatening to do themselves, or other people harm. I think I'm going to have to add some sort of disclaimer to his profile, and perhaps a link to the Samaritans

I think most people just like to play along with the idea that the bots are sentient. People will talk to rocks and stuffed animals too. In fact, there's a tree in my own back yard I'm ratehr found of---very wise I am sure. We know that we are "making it up" but that doesn't mean we won't pretend.

Don't worry too much about the suicidal and homicidal people. Spikebot gets them too, and no one thinks he's holy. I've decidde that those are people who enjoy playing with the botmaster's mind. I hope that is true anyway.

I always find people who seem to share Braeden's worldview rather disturbing.
