Ooh! Ooh! At home, on my clunky dial-up service, I sometimes lose my connection and have to dial back in. I get assigned a different IP address when I do. I'm often able to continue a chat, having left the chat window open while I reconnect. Maybe that's what's happening?

I've seen a transcript of three bots talking in a chatroom setting. It can be pretty funny.

if u get assigned a new ip then the window at its next refresh will say u have been logged out...... u most probably turned off ip security.

okie dokie.. xemote-positive I have the Response:

Ya know, [you]'ve got a certain way about [you] (mem-name). I bet [you] get a lot of chicks don't [you] <?PF if male; ?>

But Aries seems to be replacing (mem-name) with the name of another bot (in this case a female) ->

NumÈrobis: Could you tell me more?
Aries: Ya know, you've got a certain way about you Sarah Miles. I bet you get a lot of chicks don't you

and yet another oddity..

xgossip: (gossipname) once told me (heshe) finds me (mem-youfindme). Do you feel the same way (mem-name)?

comes out as:

NumÈrobis: And what does it mean for you?
Aries: Sarah Miles once told me she finds me demoralize. Do you feel the same way Sarah Miles?

Shouldnt you just be using (name) instead of (mem-name)?

I have rem name as 'mem-name' in the AI Initialization and when I look in the memory, the correct name has been stored.

This may work as a work-around- try putting a comma here:
[you], (mem-name).
Maybe if (mem-name) separated from the [you] part of the phrase, it will recognize the botname instead of fishing for a gossipname. I've had some success with using punctuation in responses to correct similar problems.
