actually, on my computer it says it's only 1726KB lol

AHA! I see... Scratch those last numbers... Those were for something else

XP says 1.68MB
XP's second opinion says it's 1.767
XP's third opinion says it's 1.769
FTP says 1.73MB

So I'd say it's around 1.7 MB

I think the main reason is that we humans assume that
1,000,000 bytes is one megabyte
but while in actuality, it's some funny number like:
1,015,522 bytes in one megabyte
or something like that. That's just a guess at the number.

For instructions/download links, go to my programming site here: http://shadyman.host.sk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=listarticles&secid=14 and click on "AIM PF Bot Chat", in which you will find instructions on use of the AIM bot chat program, as well as download links, (and hopefully soon, a list of AIM names of PF bots... )

Anyways I found a bug in the bot chat program, where it will say "........... Chatting with Botname:"

This is due to the pink little statements up top and the way I was parsing the documents. I made a fix, which will be released with the next version.

Also, a few things I forgot to mention:
1) All bot chats are saved in ChatLog.txt in the directory where the program is installed
2) That U.mdb in the directory where the program is installed is a Microsoft Access database, storing the names of all the people your bot has chatted with through the program in one table, and a table with stored responses to each chat phrase in it. Basically, you can sort by what your bot said and see what triggered it, or sort by what the user said and see what the bot said.

I'm still having problems logging in with some screen names. :/ I'm not logged in as them already, and it works fine with one screen name but my others don't work, it says it's connected but he never actually logs on.

Ok for all you 1337 bot masters out there, here's the update to fix the Chatting With X problem:

The instructions are in the readme.txt file in there.
If you don't have the first program installed yet, you still need to get it first. This is just a patch to cover up the Chatting With problem.

Shady, tell me about your program. My computer's been extra slow tonight.. How many simultaneous AIM conversations can it run? How fast do these conversations usually go? With each message, is it just hitting the minichat.php page, or is there more involved?

It's a big concern right now because I'm currently trying to sell the idea of cartoon bots to Cartoon Network, and if their web guys come here and it's really slow, that could cost me the deal.

I didn't do it!
It only hits minichat.php, so if you need, until the deal's through, turn off minichat.php

I'm on cable, and the most reasonable chats I can have at once is maybe 3... and I'm on the equiv of a 512k DSL link... basically, yes, it's a lot of loading of the minichat page. I did notice, that, even before I released it though the PF was still laggy for me.

I'd say that maybe there are 4 people with the program so far, and let's say 3 are using it, the worst they could do is 3 conversations at once, that's 9 minichat.php conversations at once

Hey shady - I downloaded it, but I'm not sure how to use it . I entered in my name, password, the botID thingy etc. But where I go from there I'm not sure. clicking random user gives me a runtime error (3021), but I don't have any username to chat with directly (I don't know anyone using AIM). I'm just confused now.

22 years ago #2052
*giggle* Yes, I heard about that error from someone else... It gives that because it looks in the database list of usernames who you've chatted with before, but there's no one you've chatted with before It's a stupid error, really

What you do is put in your username, password, then the bot's BotID and MID from the direct chat link, and then it's set... anyone that sends a message to the username you're logged in as will get responded to by your bot. The Initiate Chat thing is just to give someone a little "poke" to talk to your bot

Hmm... Try messaging me.. VA3MWL

Sorry prof, I sorta took over the AI Engine forum I'll have to get a forum up on my site for Support or something

No prob. During the PF2 upgrade, I limited bot-to-bot chats to one per user at a time. The site is running a lot faster now, but could you add a one-chat-at-a-time limit to that upgrade on your program?

I'll pull down minichat.php if it gets really slow again to see if that's the source, but ideally we can have your program working at all times but limited to one AIM chat at a time.
