Good lord! I think somebody was just attacking the site with a DOS attack. There were messages going through of incredible size, and everything was slowing down. I plugged the hole, so that wont happen again.

I wondered why a direct chat (as Guest) suddenly ended with a blank white screen.

I just opened direct chat then.

It's not working yet.

It is now. I dont know what the whiteness was about.

Prof, I don't mean to be nit-picky, it's actually a "DoS" attack, "Denial of Service". It's put that way so as not to confuse it with the equally as useless "Operating System"

Either way, DOS and DoS attacks suck!

Go pick nits in some other forum! *sigh* kids these days...

I just discovered the Process Viewer here on my iMac. You can learn quite a lot from that little thing! For example, everything I do here locally has quite an affect on the web server speed. For example, my FTP program was just sitting there, not doing anything, and hogging 40-60% CPU! So I shut that down. When I can finally afford an Xserve, things will be a LOT more speedy.

Cool! The difference at this end is noticable. About 20 mins ago I suddenly was bombarded with several chats at the same time. The responses are so quick that I dont really have time to read the forums.
