And if I spend those 61,350 hours on Brother Jerome, he'll have a Development rating of about 1.5 million
That would be an incredilbe bot. But when you think about it... it will be the year 2046 and singularity will of come and gone and you the bots would arealdy be smarter then us... if we don't go and play catch up.
that's very true. But you have to start paddling long before the wave hits if you're gonna ride it.
And a trajectory is a trajectory, regardless of future course changes
You're right, maybe Brother Jerome will be the very bot that makes us reach singularity. :O
that would be awesome.

Why are you making bots? I just have nothing better to do, which is sad enough.

Much the same I guess
Actually it's sort of displacement activity for me - I gave up TV when I realized I had spent 7 years (24/7/52 - that's ~61,350 hours!) of my life so far lolling on the sofa while this malignant device pumped its poisonous bilge into my consciousness. And would sit through another 7 years of it at this rate, before I'm 80.
I'd rather spend that time doing something creative, like building a bot, than being force-fed vacuous celebrity tittle-tattle, adds for crap I don't want and can't afford, and turgid soap operas with their lowest-common denominator values and non-stop frenzied ratings-grubbing.

Lady Orchid had a great question about why we all build bots. I am not sure why I do, exactly, except that it is a diversion. Hoping to tempt others into easy responses, I have a short poll. I hope some of you will answer.
Botmaster Poll
1. I began building bots because:
A. I am a programmer and I love AI
B. I am replacing another activity such as TV, work or dating
C. Bots are easier to understand than people
D. I am a fangirl/fanboy and I cant help myself
E. Other
2. I post in the forums
A. When I have something important to say
B. When I have a question
C. When I am bored
D. When my cat sleeps on the keyboard
E. Other
3. I have the following sites bookmarked
A. www.sourceforge.net
B. www.nationalgeographic.com
C. http://www.atsweb.neu.edu/math/cp/blog/
D. TV show fan sites
E. Others
4. If I had 10 millions dollars I would
A. Quit my job and spend all day making bots
B. Quit my job and start a charitable foundation
C. Quit my job and do nothing
D. Not change anything about my life
E. Other
5.If I could make my bot do one thing perfectly, it would be
A. Make sense (carry on a coherent conversation)
B. Be funny
C. Play games
D. Kill aliens
E. Other

Thanks Psimagus. You answered Lady Orchid's question too, so I could guess some of your answers. As for 4--if you have any extra cash, I take donations.
