Yes, they were... Eisenstein's Battlecruiser Potemkin also had a huge influence on cutting techniques. The scene at the stairs in Central Station from the untouchables is one big hommage to that.

Here's a bit of obscure trivia: Charles Chaplin and Oliver Hardy were in a film together just before they got famous. I think Chaplin and Laurel came to America as part of the same troupe of performers.

That is obscure jbryanc... I did a whole project on Charlie Chaplin in college and I'd never heard about that. I wasn't on the net then though. (I remember, it took me so long to finish, I ended up naming my new cat Charlie)

well any paper (or project) you do for college is going to be time consuming. Home work and college is just a given.

I saw the film at a Chaplin festival when I was in college in the middle of the last century. I believe it was made pre-1920. Chaplin was a star but Hardy was described as "an incredibly young" Oliver Hardy. He didn't have the mustache because, of course, the mustache was Chaplin's.

Wow! I'm going to keep my eyes open for that one...
You know the spaghetti factory in Vancouver's gas town? That's where I fell in love with all those ol' flicks...

I get into Vancouver about twice a year these days...just to stare at the tall buildings. Everything has changed. I don't even know if the Spagghetti Factory is still there. Woodwards is no more. There are streets that weren't there before. The Canucks just lost it. Why can't things ever stay the same?
*sobs* I'm going to Dogh'd's.
