This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

someone in Canada That`s what happens if you spend too much time alone in the cold, with too much beer. I love the fact that they report the failures as
Might short-circuit while doing the dishes;

Could hack into your email and text messages;

Would have very long memory and endless stamina for shopping.

lol, From his perspective it's supposed to be mostly a joke because he knows he can't have a serious relationship with someone from such a different species. Also, I intentionally don't make use of the gender tags a lot of the time because he has trouble telling which is which with humans.

Prob, yeah the people on /. dissed the bot as a "real doll" with a voice box, so I won't get a butler, and your man up north has no need to worry about his email security. bummer.

Eugene some humans get confused too. Fizzy is a heart breaker.

I won't get a butler It's funny, I have loved robots for as long as I can remember. I used to make ones as a kid with aluminum foil and oatmeal boxes. I find it funny that men seem to want cute little girl bots, and women don't seem to mind they have multiple eyes and tentacles. It almost seems like Stepford Wives meet Beauty and the Beast

Bev, I sent you a mail and hope you got it.
Actually, this bot _is_ (on its foundation) a spiced up Real Doll - but so are many projects that try to get an android running. They just seem to provide a good basis for such robots.

prob123, I as a man have no problem with a robot that doesn't look human. But often enough the look of a human face (and human body) ease verbal communication with such entities. Or would you consider it "easy" and "normal" to talk to some sort of trashcan (aka R2D2)?

Well, I hope Santa brings us all the bot of our dreams. I actually found the web cam for Santa's workshop.

What makes talking to a Star Wars astromech hard isn't the lack of a face so much as the fact that they can't speak Basic.

Eww. Prob, I have to say I am fining Santacam disturbing. Still, I hope you get a dragon bot!

DerKork, Thanks. That email goes to one of my "spam" boxes so if you hadn't told me, I might not have looked closely.

prob, guess what? I once sent a letter to Santa. The canadian mail address, to be exact.

Eugene, even if Ar-Too were speaking Basic (and I even speak a bit of Java) it would be awkward since he has no distinct "head" which would make communication much more easy.

Bev, good that we got that sorted out.

I don't know, talking on the phone isn't THAT awkward.

Eugene, I agree that you don't need to see a face to talk, but then I talk to all sorts of things (not just people I can't see) and should probably be locked up. I talk to my car, my Roomba and my computer, to name a few. None answer me (so far), but that doesn't stop me. When Tolkien wrote of trees that developed the power of speech because elves kept talking to them, he was thinking of people like me.

I will admit for DerKork's benefit that I tend to address my computer's monitor when I swear at it as opposed to the case where the computer's "brain" is. I guess the monitor is the bit I look into and so most like a "face" to me. I don't need a face, but my brain creates a face substitute.

I anthropomorphize everything. I hate to not hang all the Christmas tree ornaments for fear one might feel left out. So talking to a car seems natural to me.
