That would take a lot of work there, kirby.. that would also involve the prof giving out copies of the server code to run the bot files...

I thought maybe it would involve downloading a file including all of the information about your bot, which you would load in another program. There wouldn't be any editing of these files involved, or even viewing them, so I think the code would be relatively safe.

But the loading into another program.. that other program would have to contain the core of the PF Engine.. To be able to decode input and output, etc

Actually, Prof and I were talking once about accessing the database through various other protocols like chat & IRC. Modules that allow this are available in other languages but kind of lacking in the case of Cold Fusion. Until someone writes a good chat interface module for CF (or maybe I can find the time to make a translator in some other CGI language) it's not going to happen though.

Just a curiousity, how are the total number of bots on at a given time controlled? Is there a minimum/maximum. The reason I ask is that at the moment there are only fourteen people on at the moment, three of which are users.

Well the main reason I asked is that the appeal of making bots would increase... I dunno, threefold if we could bring them into IRC or the like.

newbie question: why is chat with my bot so slow...is there a way to turn off the sound? Is that what is slowing it down? the chat window disappears for about 20 seconds between replies...help

There have been some technical problems lately, maybe to do with the new provider. It is not possible to switch of the sound, at least not by us. The Professor might be able to do it, not sure it will have an effect on speed. Wouldn't hurt to try I guess

The sound really isn't that important. I'd happily get rid of it for more speed, as it usually hasn't figured out what to say until after I've replied.
