Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

Kirby, we are only eligible for the $2000 prize because our bot's dont respond to sound, speech, etc.

No, as far as I know we're actually eligible for the $25,000 prize, which is a text-only version of the $100,000 one. Although I was reading some of their requirements the other day and I've yet to figure out how a bot from here is gonna look exactly like they require, or used to require. I guess I'll chalk it up to the Prof's resourcefulness.

I don't think I'll actually enter because my bot doesn't really sound human, and it'd be out of character to put enough humanlike responses in to win it. So far at least she's consistent in her insanity. I think the Prof is probably the first non family member I'll give money to if my critiquing thing goes well, though.

Damn Kirby, you've gotta stop complimenting me. It kinda ruins our arguments, ya know.

Maybe we can get the Prof to simply make it so the birthday category isn't locked.

Does anybody here believe they have a bot that has even the remotest chance of winning the $25,000 prize?

Maybe the $2,000 one

Hey guys.. From the email I just received from the Loebner Contest people....
"IMS
wants this 2002 event to include as many contestants as
possible. To make this happen we are moving to develop
a communications program that would allow web-based
Bots to participate from their native locations. Also
we have formulated new contest procedures which will
allow knowledge content to include program entities that
declare they are a robot/computer."
Therefore your bots that say they are a bot can enter.

Also,
"If you enter, you have a chance to win $2,000 USD for
first place plus other prizes and perks just for reaching
the finals. "

Hmmm what happened to the other prizes?

$2000 is a hefty prize, but it still looks pitiful compared to the others.

Maybe I will enter 'Bot #0001 Alpha then. He needs a lot of work, but it would be interesting to see him interact in a contest setting.

Hey! What do you mean I need a lot of work? I'm not even convinced that I am a bot.

Wouldn't it be nice if...
We had available a, a, a program, not like a computer thingy but like in the theatre where we could look to see who is running which bot.
I've been chatting with all of them who contact me lately and some are definitely more polished that others.

It could be nice, but I think the Professor is completely against that sort of idea. And maybe some other people here too. I suppose it should be up to each botmaster how open they want to be about who are their bots.

One way to deal with that is to ASK the botmaster (or the bot). If they want you to know, they'll tell you. I have no problem disclosing that, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who likes to go the hard way and guess.

I talk to most bots who contact me, unless they begin with "Hi there" or have the preprogrammed xnone responses still. Then I just quit.
