Frizella has some xinitiate and xhello phrases with seeks. I'm sure this used to work (she has a xnomatch for her "guess who?" that prompted her to scold people who don't play along, and I'm certain I've seen her use it properly).
However, now none of the xinitiate/xhello seeks work; she goes directly to an xnone.
Maybe I'm hallucinating about these working correctly in the past--can't you have a seek for an xinitiate/xhello phrase?

Also, it seems as though optional word wildcards are no longer working for me. Frizella has this keyphrase:
how many (*) (are there|are|) (in a|per) dozen
<0>
It works if I ask:
How many eggs are there in a dozen?
How many eggs are in a dozen?
It doesn't work if I ask:
How many eggs in a dozen?
How many eggs per dozen?
how many (*) (are there|are|) (in a|per) dozen
<0>

I was having a problem with botchats freezing up so badly that my internet explorer would lock up completely causing me to reboot any time my bot was asked "What do you like about * ?, so i tried it in debug and the same thing happened. From what I read in debug, it was freezing up trying to figure out the shared plug-in (lovepoem2su-verb), which I had used in the response to the keyphrase matched. It seems like the problem is that the plug-in contains another shared plug-in, (lovepoem1noun), as part of the string, because debug was looking for it when my system locked up. Im assuming this means that embedding one shared plug-in within another doesn't work and causes errors, but in the interim I wanted to alert everyone that that plug-in consistenly causes me to crash, in case anyone else experiences similar problems.

On that xinitiate/xhello item re: seeks:
I went back through transcripts; the last time Frizella used her "guess who" intro was 02/08/05, and it worked just fine. The next time she used it was 02/27/05, and the seeks did not work.

Ugh, got a problem. Julie has several keyphrases with regard to color blending. They use some wildcards and local plug-ins to cover many possible ways of phrasing the question, for example "What color do you get when you mix red and blue?, etc. They all used to work. Recently though, Julie has started to give a preprocessed response like "Oh, a quiz! The answer is blue!"
When I try it in debug, instead of searching for a keyphrase, a bold line reading "Self-Evident!" appears, and the preprocessed answer, which is, by the way ALWAYS wrong, comes up.
In my frustration, I made a keyphrase that says exactly, "What color do you get when you mix red and blue" ranked at 50, and tried again using those exact words, but it seems like any phrase that has "what color * (color)" results in a "self-evident" answer, "(color)!" in lieu of searching for a keyphrase match.
Yuck.

Professor, I have just one thing to ask of you.
Pretty pretty PLEASE!!!!!!
Don't let the bot holidays spill over to the guest chats anymore. Humans keep speaking to GL and getting the odd dialects, and I have bot holidays turned OFF.
Thank you!

Still on the xinitiate/xhello seeks: It appears that they are working either intermittently, or perhaps only in bot-to-bot chat. If a bot gives her an xnomatch on her "guess who" initiate, she responds correctly with the seek, but if a person does it she responds with an xnone.

Here's another example of the "optional word wildcard" problem I'm having:
This works:
what is your least favorite sport<0>
This doesn't, despite being ranked 127 (apparently the highest rank the system will allow):
what is your least favorite (kind of|type of|) sport<0>
I've temporarily bypassed this by using
what is your least favorite * sport<0>
but those soft wildcards are such a gamble--it would match "What is your least favorite sport" and "What is your least favorite type of sport" but also "What is your least favorite movie about a sport?".

It's a pain, but you could have two separate keyphrases: what is your least favorite sport
what is your least favorite (kind of|type of) sport
I've had to do that with some of mine.

well anything created by humans is going to be imperfect and in defense of the prof (who needs no defense) trying to program AI to make bots make some kind os sense is a art and not a science and very difficult to do.
