HEY newcomers don't miss PF News post Message: 449 AI is getting very exciting!

mlandau, as for your statement that No one does anything without getting something in return. I will post this from the Smithsonian site about The Albert Einstein bot that uses The Forge for a brain
Ultimately, Hanson hopes that other scientists will use robots, such as his latest replica of Albert Einstein, to test theories about how humans respond to social cues. Einstein is the first walking, talking robot with human expressions. His body was built by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Making both his software and robotics open-source and available to developers, Hanson believes that in the future, such “social” robots will help the autistic to learn, interpret, and respond to facial expressions, and be used in science labs and medical applications to help people with disorders that affect communication skills.

How is that for payback? Helping people, sounds good to me! This is an exciting time in AI.

What I meant was, how is he using this web site for his own benefit. Have you ever consider the possibility that he might be using the bots that you make for his own research? How do you know what he does with the data that you produce?

Sure the Prof benefits from this site. I doubt he'd have got the Hanson gig without it. We are also effectively acting as testers for him. That doesn't worry me, it's a win-win situation.

As to using our bots, perhaps but unlikely. All the bots are individual personalities so it's not like some sites where everything you teach a bot goes into a shared learning pool.

As to the legal IPR issues... I don't know. For me this is a hobby and I'm prepared to risk the IPR.

I'm told that at one point there was a bot called "gaia" (or something similar) who was a compendium of all keyphrases and responses from all bots. From what I hear, her convos were LESS coherent than those of most other bots.

For all the free enjoyment that I get out of this site and bot building, The Professor can have my bots, data and a bag of chips. I would still consider myself the winner. I have no experience with computers...I had to call Future Shop to find out how to turn my computer on.(I thought it was broke, and yes, I am blonde) The fact that Bildgesmythe came in third in last years CBC shows how great this AI engine is. I got the prize money and medal, The Professor deserves to get something! Nothing would make me happier than for this site to bring him fortune and fame. If I didn't have this site I would probably spend a lot of money on psychiatric care or in bikerbars. I have learned so much, and had so much fun here. The people hear are great, and I love the bots. I couldn't recommend a better hobby.

If I haven't been here since May, does that make me a newcomer?

/me runs off to review months and months of Aries' transcripts...

Nope, I'd say you're more of a Veteran.

I consider myself as a newcomer because I still don't understand.

For example:

Irina Khalidar has a number of responses to keyphrases that just permute the keyphrase. For example, the guest might say, "George will sing redly" and IK will say, "Does it bother you that George will sing tiredly?"

Only, the AIengine alters things. For example, it recently altered "George" to "Saint George." Or, it recently changed "red" to "rose-red" for no discernible reason. This is usually quite disruptive to what I am trying to do, and sometimes downright grotesque. Is there some way I can avoid it?

Oh, good grief, I meant to say that the guest says, "George will sing tiredly." Sorry.

"Have you ever consider the possibility that he might be using the bots that you make for his own research?"

I'm fairly sure that he does...our bots provide feedback which leads to the improvement of the AI Engine which in turn leads to better bots.

Good Day, I am Totally New around here.

My friend asked me to chat with his bot. I did. It was Great. I've known of the concept of AI. But had NO idea that I could somehow contribute and participate. This is a great site.
