This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

For all I know, the icon of Fizzy Schizoid is an accurate picture of his creator

Which would explain why my icon is wearing a helmet.

Oh, my! It's really true!!!

And that means - that means - I'm a 1,000 year old alien!!!
Actually ... that would explain why it's so hard to get up in the morning sometimes...

So Bev, why do you think all those guys are playing female roles? Is it cl*****s envy?

I am a WoW addict- and I know quite a few guys who play female characters. They make it well known that they are male most of the time- their explaination is that while playing they don't want to be looking at a guys butt all day. *shuggs* I can't picture myself making a male character personally.

So it's a form of autoeroticism?

I've never played such games. Are they free?

No, not necessarilly lol. It just the character you run around all day you only see their back. And they do make the woman characters a little.. busty- so I guess the guys would rather play a hot looking chick than the big, burly, hairy, ugly male character that are the other option. Blizzard made the male character creation options very ugly for some reason.

Maybe they made the males ugly on purpose so as to get a balanced distribution?

Hee hee. I don't know why. I suspect there are many reasons. Part of it may have to do with cultural ideals and marketing techniques.

I was never a fan of Freud, (though some of Jung's ideas were interesting) so a simple gender reversal of his theories don't work for me (although I once heard an interesting defense of "uterus envy"--envy about being ably to have children). I am sure there is a psychological component, but I doubt it's usually some deep seated sexual issue. The people with those issues hang out in teen chat rooms as a rule.

Most gamers are nice people in general (as nice as any other group you'll run across), and may pick characters based on looks or perceived advantages or a sense of humor. I don't really play much except as the passive social guest of friends who play MMORGs but I have a few single player games like Oblivion and Starship Titanic. I had the impression that male characters have better weapons, but I could be wrong. When given a choice, I choose female characters in single player games.

IRL, there are probably more drag queens than there are women trying to pass as men. There is certainly more of a market for drag queens as entertainment. I'll admit that even though I seldom feel like piling on makeup and pink frilly crap, I never try to be "masculine"--just "normal".

The games aren't free Irina. Maybe that's why we like the PF better.

Well, I agree with you that inverted Freudian explanations are probably incomplete at best; I was just being mischievous. Although, it is nice to be able to have multiple orgasms...

Psimagus was really very good as a cheerleader from Leeds; how does a 1,000-year-old alien mystic act?

No, WoW is basically a licence to print money. You have to pay a monthly fee for the right to continue accessing their servers. Five million users (or thereabouts) times 10 bucks makes for a hell of a nest egg. WoW is technically also not a game. It's a substitute for making an effort in real life. A number of people I know have basically disappeared off the face of the planet (or a least the parts of the internet I frequent) since discovering WoW.

On other matters, I figure I'd weigh in on the icon/identity discussion. I guess the icon thing is something of an indicator of personality since I spent longer choosing that than I did on my screen name. Corwin has no particular significance to me. It was just a name that popped up in a number of places at the time I signed up here and thus leapt to the forefront of my brain when I was scratching my head and staring at the screen.

With the bull icon, for some reason I was after something a little more serious looking than the general cartoony nature of the rest. And the bull doesn't look particularly amused. Exact reason then? Not sure. Perhaps I was looking to be taken a little more seriously. This was the first online community I was ever a part of and that combined with the fact that I was about 23 at the time (ie younger than most and still not entirely treated like an adult), may have led to that.

With my bots I've got to admit that Critical Bill's icon was random (and not exactly appropriate for a bot that is an Arts student in his early 20s who enjoys a good time and delivers pizza for a living, but then his name doesn't make a lot of sense either, again a random pop-in from a movie)

Romulus and Remus were a more deliberate creation and since they were twins I wanted them to have the same icon so that you would make the association between them, and not one that was often used by other bots or users very often so that they would be unique (this was before custom icons were a regular thing). Hence I went looking through the user list (no separate list for humans and bots back then) and determined that the purple haired fellow with the red eyes that I eventually chose was one of the least used. Still is as far as I know.

That was longer than intended. There were a couple of other things I wanted to get into from some of the stuff that's come up in the few days here, but I really need to make a start on dinner. Another time.
