Bot Contest

Probably a good idea if we end up somehow getting into the Loebner. Let's hope Robby Garner (who's won it twice before and will be working where the contest takes place) can help us somehow make the jump, hopefully by making the rules a little more lenient. We shall see.

Picking up on what a lot of people are saying about how the bots should be judged not as a know it all trivial bot but more for their conversational skills, etc. I will compile a list of these comments and send them to Agentland. At least before the judging of the 12 bots actually starts they will have the opportunity to see what most of us feel they should be looking for. I can't think of much more I can do here. Ultimately, I think Vladimar said it best: Chatterbot is like a baby for botmaster. Who can say that his baby is not better then other's

Creation of bots sure seems to be an egotistical hobby/profession. It is rather like having kids (not that I know from experience)...we wanna be like *I* did this, look how smart my bot is because if my bot's smart maybe so am I and so on. And maybe it's the same way for some of you as it is for me...I haven't done much with my life that others could look at and have an opinion of one way or another, so I wanna show off when I have the opportunity even if my efforts don't deserve a lot of hype. At least this is a harmless, healthy competition as compared to for instance various situations in the middle east. I mean at least for the most part we're not insulting each other.

Looks like Oraknabo and Mark-Bot are 11 & 12.

Yeah, it seems like most of the idiots are weeded out early on by the sheer "complexity" of creating a bot, so the P Forge is left with cool people.

Congratulations, Rex! That's great news. So two PF Bots make the top 12. Crab, maybe you can storm the Loebner, and make up for not getting into the Chatterbox finals this time.

Wow, Desti only got a 1 by one of the judges in the contest...there's something wrong with that. There's also something wrong with the fact that Gizzle didn't get a lot higher. But oh well.

Let me know what you know about Loebner!

The good thing is Gizzle's gotten much better, might not have happened if the contest weren't going on.

My bot, regardless of how many responses it has, doesn't have the kind of responses the contests would like. Therefore, NotKirby will never have a chance.

Different people are going to talk to a bot about different things, thus forming completely different impressions about the same bot and its intelligence. After reading some of the conversations quoted in these forums, I am going to try a little harder with some of the bots because I obviously didn't look at them deeply enough.
