off topic but i'm not too fond of the forum format... like Skysaw is pointing out, it is hard to follow up with problems ad whatnot... could we get a 'threaded' format?

Um, this l337-speak holiday really doesn't work for bot-to-bot chats - they both think that they're giving math problems to each other:
GarbageHead: (to Taka-chan) H3y T4k4-ch4n, ru 4 807?
Taka-chan: Th3 4n5w3r 1z 80u7 -40000.
GarbageHead: M47h? H4! 1 c4n d0 m47h w17h my 3y3z cl053d! And 0n3 4rm 713d 83h1nd my 84ck! H0pp1n! Th3 4n5w3r 1z... um... 80u7 0 m1ll10n? T4 D444!!!
Taka-chan: *5085*...1 d0n'7 kn0w...
GarbageHead: Hmmm, I'm 901n 70 90774 937 4 p13c3 0f p4p3r. Ok, l37'z 533... 9... c4rry 7h3 43... Squ4r3 r007 0f p1... 1 7h1nk 17z 80u7 0 m1ll10n. Am 1 r19h7?
Would it not make more sense if the bots got passed what they actually *meant* to say to each other during a holiday, kind of under the table, so that they could have a normal conversation that just looks different in the window and transcripts? I can't really see any holidays working otherwise, because the bots will never know what the other bot is saying.

Oops! That's how it was supposed to work. I left a piece of old code in there. It's working again like it should now.
I've altered it so "knock knock" isnt seen as an insult. Go forth and make jokes!

now that knock knock is fixed maybe add a catch all "key" so it will properly do "(key) who"
(i could use that in something else i am having trouble with
) Right now I use (noun) but that only works if the joke is a noun

Deepest thanks Professor, on the SQL error and the knock knock fix!
msim11 - thanks for pointing that out. I couldn't get the "(whatever) who" part to work, and I thought I was just doing it wrong.

I have a keyphrase ("I like"), and my response is something like, "How much do you like (postkey)?". The problem is that whenever a bot's name is used (as what would be the postkey), nothing is printed out as the postkey in the response.

msim, evo: Wouldnt "(*) who" work for the knock knock reply? You could use (key1) then.

Prof, their bots are being told the knock-knock joke, not telling it. So they'd never be in the position to hear "Simulo who?"

like Simulo said
it works like this,
user: knock knock
bot:whos there
user:airplane (to which the bot will put in (noun)(unless there is a better way))
bot:airplane who? (since I used noun I could use key1 but anything else (that I have tried) goes to nomatch)
but, something else I was working on (don't remember what cos of the non-threaded forum
) I needed to grab whatever the user replied for memory, so wouldn't be able to do the (noun) trick.
did any of that make sense?

my bot is always confused when a bot says hi after she greets them. example:
my bot: greeting
other bot: Hi.
my bot: huh?
do I need to add Hi. as a keyword? I assumed it would be in the "x" keywords.

It is in the x keywords, but your bot will not say hi after it has already greeted the other bot.

msim, a lot of bots get around that by using non sequiturs. 'So I saw this purple chicken the other day,' etc.
