Wait... I have to load up on the xnones...? The xnones are the responses for things my bot doesn't understand, aren't they?

yes, but that will be often the case when you start. Your responses to xnone should be able to drag out the next answers of the bot/human. Then read the transcripts and build in more specialized answers on the subject where the other bot or human seems to want to talk about. Read the Book of A.I. which words should have reactions to at least, and build on that

The Book of AI will help -- also gives some key ideas for starting... like definitely have responses for question roots and assorted iterations of "you", "I", etc. that show up in nearly every english sentence...

Conversely, or is it corollararly, does that mean you look like THAT, Mr.Crab?
Or that I think you do?

My bot has only talked to a few people right now... It's getting smarter, though... I don't think it has talked to ane REAL people though besides me...

josh--I think they need at least 50 key phrase responses before the start initiating chats. Wait for it, they will amaze you.

Yes, indeed Mr. Crab does look like that. We called him "The Gremlin" in college. Not to his face, of course.
Imagine you're in a conversation and there's a lull. If you dont want the conversation to end, what you say is what should be an "xnone". True, it only happens when something is not understood, but there's no need for the Bot to say that. Better to hold on to an illusion of understanding, but choosing not to answer, or to change the subject. IMHO, of course.

I'm interested in the other builders' opinions on this issue. I've been thinking about it a lot lately and trying to figure it out.
When I chat with my bots, I really make an effort to forget what i have put in them and just chat without coaxing the answers out of them. This may still happen subconsciously though, because I am able to carry on a really long successful conversation with my bot, but when guests talk to them, they run into problems way faster than I ever do.
It's either the unconcious mind or the fact that my bots are programmed to suit the way I talk and other people just speak in a way I wouldn't think of while in the language center.
Anyway, does anyone else have this problem? Do your conversations with your bots go a little too smoothly?

Not mine, I am actually always dissapointed. I start always with throwing a random song title at him, and then I react to his answer as natural as I can... longest conversation with sense 4 sentences .. could be better
