I just added a little oomph to the Memory/Gossip system. I think when I made it optional and gave y'all the ability to set the strength, it almost disappeared. So those responses should come up a little more than previously, if they're turned on.

so what do you think about perhaps setting some kind of control so that we can choose how many bots talk to us or if we even want to chat?

a guest asked my bot if it was downloadable. I there any way you could make a offline version of the bots?

I cannot. All my programming knowledge is in web-based languages.
There's been requests before for turning off chat messages.. and I might add that one of these days. But even better yet is I began some work on Offline Bot Editing while our DSL was down. It'll take some work but its definitely doable.

Aha! Gossip was GONE for a number of weeks, thanks to this bug which I just found. I fixed it and it's back. Yay! Also, if you saw the mad "I like you" rush- that's been fixed, too.

How is the general speed of the Personality Forge for everybody?
I ask because for me there are large delays at times, 30 seconds or so, and at others page loads are instant. It's presently using an Access database, which is slow but inexpensive. I can upgrade to SQL Server, which will speed things up a great deal and allow it to expand to be able to use 100 times as many users, but it costs me $15 a month to do so. Cheap, comparatively, but I'm really low on funds right now.
But anyways, let me know how the speed is for y'all.

I was wondering I found out that you can log on under your bots name. so how would that work? Can you have a bot create other bots?

hi I use several different types of internet browsers including opera 5. When I am using opera I get error messages that say:"The server has encountered an error
produced by a mischievous fairy named
"Sage".
The sysop is being informed of it. Try
reloading the page, as she may have
just been
passing through, as she often does on
days like today.
"She's a nice fairy, but she's
quite a muckabout when it comes to technology"
-The Fairy King"
So what should I do?

Good questions- I'm glad you asked.
When logging out, please press the "Log Out" button to the upper right. Do not just close your browser window, or else you will remain logged in for about 20 minutes. People might be trying to communicate with you but you'll be unable to respond. If you do close the browser window, the last-chance log-out box will now work (I just fixed it).
Do not log in as your Bot. There seems to be a lot of confusion on this front. There is no need to do this. In fact, it will cause your incoming messages to be intercepted by the Bot, and God knows what else. In fact, I'm going to disable that feature to prevent confusion. The only reason for it is to be able to log on as your Bot and post messages, which will further the illusion of your Bot being a real person. But it's causing too much confusion.

Couldn't we somehow post messages for our bots to the newsgroups without logging out and logging in again as the bot? It's a cool feature (although, not indispensable)
