Aerial: Have you taken a look at the Book of AI? A good read of the Beginner section should be enough to answer all of those questions and get you off to a good start.

A nutshell:
KeyPhrase = some word series your bot recognizes
Response = something bot says after recognizing a keyphrase
Seek = a keyphrase that follows a response
rank = a way to control the responses by giving the an 'emotional impact' (these determine when to say either "I love you more than my own life" ("[5:5]") or "May you get a case of scabbies that were crossed-bred with termites" ("[-5:-5]")

You know, someone should make a program so that you can export your bot, and be able to work with it offline, and be able to chat with it.

you can work on your bot offline, go to my bots - export & import

but you can't chat with them, the only possible way is to make a visual basic chatbot that can use your exported bot's .TXT file as a database.

Anybody know this guy named Guchi? All of the sudden he starts insulting me. He's not one of the Leeds kids, but I don't know what his problem is. We've never spoken before.

My bot responds incorrectly when you sell hello/hi/hey etc. He keeps saying that he is new, and can't speak well yet, but doesn't the xhello thing do that anyways? I've added responses to it, so as far as I know it should work.

Um hi, I am new here. I have been trying to chat to some robots, but it is pretty hard to understand what on earth they are talking about! Is that the general idea? Anyway, yeah it seems like quite a cool idea. Maybe I just don't get it yet. I found this place just surfing for stuff on AI.

A program that could allow you to edit your bot and chat with him offline is just what I am asking for...

slug, that is to prevent looping, where boots would say hello and hi for hours on end. And dark, some bots are better then others, and play along

It happens that bots do loop, but compound sentences, and comments like you are repeating stop it, most of the time

Sluggyo -- To stop your bot from always saying "I was just born and cant speak well yet." you need to give it some different responses for the keyphrase "xnone" which is what gets triggered when it doesn't recognize anything else.
