I am indeed curious...have any idea about the message numbers? (This is where a search feature in forums sure would come in handy to keep us from repeating questions about things that have already been dicussed.)

I just came back from pouring sand through my fingertips, well, figuratively...I couldn't find those posts. do you have the numbers?
Oh, ezzer already asked. She beat me to it.

From old news. This basically explains it.
September 28, 2002- The Loebner 2002 Debacle
The powers in charge of Loebner 2002 have, through gross inattention to their own contest, forgotten to show up and do the semi-final event. They also forgot to tell SciTrek they were doing it, and they forgot to contact any media or do a webcast. Which really pisses me off because Rexmundi and Butterfly and I went to the no-show "event". Butterfly came all the way from another state. I cant believe this is the "big contest". For updates, see the Bot Contest forum.
ezzer, Charles- you can look in this forum starting around message 904 for the whole, rather sad event.

The current rules require a bot interface that simulates typing, character by character. That would be a lot of work to write.

I've just read the messages from #904 to the ones just after the competition ended. I can't believe the way they treated you, Prof and Butterfly! Some of those emails from Neil Bishop were beyond belief. Well done for fighting your case and for doing so well!

Wow! You guys went through the infernal regions, didn't you? For the contest in 2002, I mean, with turing hubs and what all.... whew! So, is the chatterbox contest open to our bots, or are there any contests open to our bots, or are we sitting tight and preparing for "the BIG one"?

Yup, we've never had any trouble entering the Chatterbox Challenge. That is not to say there are never any glitches involved in the whole process.
But we have had better experiences with Chatterbox. It's more fun anyway, because it is testing how good a bot is at being a bot, not how good a bot is at being a human.

It triggers a lot of good guest chats, too. Speaking of which, I need to re-enter my bot. But I was thinking about doing Fizzy Schizoid instead of Alpha this year.

I think there are already some of us entered in the chatterbox contest. Immaculada is, so is Julie T. and I think I remember a couple of others.
