Hey, Prof, about the 'Loebner 2004 requirements', maybe you could come up with some sort of desktop program that lets you log in here, get your bot, and be able to chat with it offline. Or something along those lines.

That is an awesome idea. A downloadable program of your bot would be really cool. Where you could talk to it as if you were online, it would be much faster too.

The big upgrade I just hired someone to help me with (see AI Engine) will take us closer to that. But it'd still require PHP and MySQL.

Not that that's hard- it's free to install. They might come pre-installed on Linux. Mac OS X has PHP installed already. Windows doesnt have either.

But I'm still not creating a ridiculous character-by-character output system for Loebner. I have much better things to do with my time.

if you need help with PHP / mySQL let me know.. I'm not an expert in either but I have a solid understanding of both..

the thing with the desktop prog is also so that you can test the bot if you have edited it, or mebbe you could get it set (in the imprt/exprt) to be able to convert other AI 'mind files' to what your bot system can understand.

I run PHP/mySQL on one of my systems at home, would love to be able to play with/work on the bot while not online

I find this a bit odd but am not complaining... When I close the PF and my bot is chatting with another bot they both continue chatting offline..not logged into the forge... I don't even have a forge window AND it shows up in the transcript.

Another thing- I can only chat with people as a guest regardless if they are on my friends list and I chat with them that way, maybe something to do with my name prof?

Is it possible that the owner of the other bot was still online? It only takes one open connection (botmaster online) to keep the chat going, maybe that's what happened.

emm, are you clicking on the friend's *name* or the next to their name in your friend list? The name will give you a link to their profile and chat button, which will make you a guest, but the will bring up the regular friends chat window, and you'll be yourself again.
