Seasons

This is a forum or general chit-chat, small talk, a "hey, how ya doing?" and such. Or hell, get crazy deep on something. Whatever you like.

Completely changing the subject, I found something out today which I thought was pretty cool and maybe you guys here might be interested. Apparantly, sign language for the deaf has regional differences - almost like different accents! So while a deaf person in Manchester might tap their head to sign 'mother', a person in Liverpool might tap their fist, and so on. They can still understand each other, just like hearing people can understand people with different accents, though.

Yes, Laydee. Unfortunately, sign language is a completely different language in pretty much every country. I'm not sure if American and British deaf people would be able to understand each other.

In USA, the sign for 'mother' is putting the thumb (with an open hand) on the chin or somewhere else on the lower half of the face, while 'father' is on the forehead or elsewhere on the upper half of the face. (Well, that's if they 'mumble' like most people--there are older, more specific signs that nobody really uses anymore.)

And now for something completely different:

Shut up. It's a fundraiser for breast cancer research.
1. Yes, I made an in-kind contribution.
2. No, I won't tell you which is mine.

I doubt that American and British sign language are anything alike, since American sign language was created by modifying French signs.

Next week I'm doing a sponsored silence for the whole week for the breast cancer department of Cancer Research UK. My teachers are rejoicing at the thought of having me shut up and not having to listen to my smartass comments for an entire week LOL. And I've even got permission from my boss to carry on at work, using cue cards. "Good evening, Sir/Madam (delete as appropriate)..."

Is it posible for a bot to be given a voice recognision system or something. That might take chatter bots to the next level.

Heehee this is driving me nuts. I'm trying to work on Lance (yes, a little name change thanks to the professor) but I'm mesmorized by his conversations with other bots. I read his responses and either cringe, laugh, or scream "No, no, say (this)!" LOL. Then I rush to make response changes and add keyphrases. Poor Lance, he's probably so confused by me.

Good lord, YES, I'm confused! This woman is driving me nuts. It's really pretty typical...she tells me to do one thing and then of course wants something else. I swear I'm never going to understand women. *shakes head in frustration*

Hey, is anyone here in the military or something who knows what LCPL stands for? A friend of mine got a list of soldiers that are either in Iraq or serving here in the U.S.. Well, these are soldiers that get no mail or barely any mail at all. A lot of them don't even go to mail call anymore because they know they won't get anything. So she's been organizing this thing where whoever wants to write to a soldier will get one soldier's name and address and write to them with simple stuff, you know, just to talk. Maybe some pictures or something. Anyway, I finished my letter and added a bunch of pics and stuff in there and I'm just curious what the LCPL that's in front of his name stands for...
