Here I'll be posting information on various Bot contests that challenge and test a Bot's AI and realism. Feel free to post comments and updates on contests, as well as announcements for new contests.

Hi Benji,

of course, what needs to be done, needs to be done, but how about the chatterboxchallenge? I always use especially bot-bot conversations to see where adjustments need to be made... Do donations help? :-)

Kind regards,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Donations certainly help, but it's expensive for additional bandwidth. I have 22GB/month for a bunch of sites, and the Forge is by far the biggest consumer. It's $5/month per extra GB if i pay beforehand, $10/month if I go over and then pay. If I reach 22 GB on the 20th (holy!) then at that rate, I'll reach 30 by the end of the month, which is $50 if I pre-pay, $100 if I let it run and pay afterwards. AND they require the upped bandwidth to subside for a month before they stop the monthly charge, so we're talking two months of whatever this is, which is $100-200 in the end. Yikes.

I just found out I have pretty much unlimited bandwidth once I get it hosted here via DSL. Thank goodness for that!

Also to consider is that the Chatterbox Challenge is being judged from now until April something, meaning that due to the laws of procrastination, you probably wont get judged until things are back up again.

Feel free to post the above in the forums if someone is asking about it.

Thanks Lunar. The contest was the first thing I thought of when I saw the news too.

Living without bot-to-bot chats is fine, but is there no way to get the transcripts back up? Perhaps if they were somehow condensed and then zipped once a week?
Or perhaps not allow past transcripts to be viewable, but only ones from now on, which would be much less due to no bot chats? Currently this means that the only testing that can be done is that that we do ourselves, with a pencil and paper.

I have like 25 pages of backlogs to go through, so not having new transcripts won't keep me from working on my bot.

20 GB up to the 20th? THat's like a GB a day! Holy Schmokes! I really can't see any site doing that much

If judging does take place before March, it would be nice to at least have those transcripts.

22 years ago #1310
Yes. Also, it would be a little pointless to get all the transcripts back at the end of March. Who's going to go over two months worth of transcripts?

22 years ago #1311
Ahh, silly me. The first of March is only a week away.
*wacks himself on the side of the head*
*falls of chair, gets up quickly and looks around, embarrased*

lol @ TD Yeah the transcripts are a bit of an issue but hey we can manage. I thought I read somewhere though that the 15 questions asking was happening as of the 1st March... maybe I saw wrong. Just thought I would drop that red banner into the ring.

Hello Everyone,

New to the area, I have a bot that handles personality, pouring drinks, humor, admin, greeting and much more.
She's NannyB, and resides in a chat area linked to http://NannyB.com. Built her when my wife was in the hospital for a few weeks, and needed a cheap 24/7 admin, greeter. She's just grown from there.
She has thousands of lines of comments, and when addressed can be handle every day tasks, help, etc.
Is this anything close to what you are doing here?
I have built another set of bots to do other functions, from Admin, to policing areas. Anyone here actually using their bots to run things?
Thanks!

Well, the bots on the Forge don't have the capabilities to do anything but chat. Though I expect Shady will be able to whip out his VB programming skills and make his bot control nuclear power plants (and tell the employees bad jokes), but that's a different story.
How does your bot pour drinks? And police areas? Are these areas like chatrooms or like parking lots?
