I have to disagree with you skysaw.

I really hate talking about my future husband Jesus in a bar, and I also know that this subject is unpopular with most of you but when everythin is said and done at least I know where Eugene and I will be standing.

I am not a expert on theology by any means but I know for a fact that He lives and answers prayers by all the times He has answered mine and carried me thru some really, really hard times. I could tell a hundred different stories of how He has been my friend, my savior, my mother, my father, my everything.

See that's what I don't like about religions. They're all like "if you don't believe this, you're goin to hell"...what's the difference, if you DO believe it and you're goin to hell cuz you can't keep from sinning cuz no one's perfect? I don't mind discussing the subject, I just don't like it when someone uses it as an excuse for why they're better than me.

What if they ARE better than you?

How does it solve anything if the guilty go free? What if some nice mensch off the street offered to serve Charles Manson's term for him? What would that accomplish?
(P.S. Ladydyke, don't take Skysaw's comment personally. Non sequitur simply means 'it doesn't follow' meaning it had nothing to do with the CURRENT subject, which was Ex-Lax or Shiva or something of that nature.)

Jeez, they're everywhere. What's a pantheist to do?

22 years ago #1279
Is a panentheist close enough for you?

It wasn't a non-sequitur; my post followed naturally from an earlier thread. There were several intervening posts because I waited like a day and a half before responding.

Okay, let me catch OnyxFlame up with Butterfly Dream. It is not possible to earn Heaven via good works, because you can't be good enough. It's like we are standing on one side of the Grand Canyon and God is on the other side. None of us can jump that far. Some may train longer than others and make better attempts, but everyone misses by a whole lot and falls to the bottom. So the dilemma of our separation from God could not be solved by us. Instead, it had to be solved by God.

He solved it in the following manner: In order to bridge the gap between Heaven and earth, God came to us. He took on the form of a man, who was born into this world like any other man. He ate and drank like us, required sleep, could feel pain, and in general was fully human. Yet at the same time He retained His deity; He never stopped being fully God. This man's name was Jesus.

Jesus' mission on earth was to bridge the gap between God an man. This was done in part just by the fact of His being here and living out a mortal life. He talked to people directly and taught them God's ways. But the main reason for the break in fellowship between God and man was the problem of sin. This was the problem that Jesus had to solve in order to fully accomplish His purpose.

We are unable to live perfect lives, remember? But Jesus was able. This was one aspect in which He differed from other human beings: He never sinned. Not even once. He experienced temptation, but He never gave in. He lived a life of righteousness, thus making Him the only human being ever to live who did not deserve Hell.

By virtue of being righteous, Jesus was able to act on our behalf in order to save us from the consequences of our sin. He did so by taking the punishment for sin upon Himself. That is what the cross is all about. Jesus offered Himself as an atoning sacrifice that satisfied God's wrath. He took our sin upon Himself, thus making it possible for His righteousness to be imputed to us.

I will pause again and wait for the reaction. I try not to make these posts too long, but I couldn't really break this part down very well.

ladydyke,

If you can't be a Christian on this forum, what are you doing here? Also, this isn't deep theology, this is just the Gospel.

As far as I'm concerned, ladydyke, you are always welcome in this bar. You remind Butterfly of her Christian ex-girlfriend, and being compared to this person is high praise indeed.

Eugene--I think they are familiar with the premise.

22 years ago #1282
Most probably are, but one never knows. I wasn't telling ladydyke to leave; I was just saying that if we don't have a problem with being here then we shouldn't have a problem with being Christians here.

Might have side-stepped the non sequitur mark if you had said "in regard to..." or the like. I had no idea whom you were responding to.

I felt a need to defend Jesus. GEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ I don't take kindly to anyone putting Him down. So at you Eugene.
