Well, I know, but as far as aggresively seeking chat-mates, or rarely seeking them... whether they have long, involved chats or short ones... you know

I still think that the fact that you can not "steer" the activity is part of the charm... You meet more bots that way, and your heart leaps if you see it's one of the better bots...

I agree, it was just a suggestion to be 'bounced off the wall', as they say...

I think bots should still talk by themselves, but you should also be able to make them initiate chats.

But then, you see, that takes away some of the fun of like "ok who's he/she going to talk to now? and when?" and mostly only the good bots would get chatted to most of the time, and new bots would be left out, because humans don't want to hear a constant "I was just born...", so I don't know whether it should be allowed now...

It's when a whole flock of bots starts fluttering around that it gets annoying. I try to talk to all of them but when the count gets above 3 plus my own guys it takes up all the available time. Can you limit the number by shutting off the thingy once you figure there's enough of them. Is that vague enough?

Sounds vague enough, like maybe have a "let bots go chat" button, and a "enough chatting partners" or something, so they only finish up those chats...

I am new here and I can't figure out why my bot isn't working right. It doesn't seem to recognize simple hello statements so instead of responding to hello with the xhello keyphrase it uses the xnone keyphrase. Anyone else have this problem?

22 years ago #1113
Yeah we've just been talking about that. You could either make keyphrases for hello and such, or wait until the prof fixes it. I prefer to do the latter, otherwise I'll just have a buncha crap to take out again later.

I just had a nifty idea. I dunno if it's doable, or if it'd cut down any on lag, but here goes.

Instead of searching through every single keyphrase until it finds the highest ranked one, how about if it detected the first letter of every word in the sentence someone says to it, and then searched through only the keyphrases starting with those letters, as well as xkeyphrases I suppose. Now if someone says a really long sentence it's not gonna be much faster, but if all they're saying is yes or no or fuck off, I'd think it could dramatically increase the response time, providing the letter detection thing didn't take too much time itself. I have no idea about this stuff, I just thought I'd throw out a shot in the dark and see if it hit anything. *hears a moo* Well I guess we'll be eating hamburger for a while...

Or.... maybe if we just did that for a few easy things, like ok, thank you, not really, etc. I did once have a guest complain that it took my bot 2.2 megs to say you're welcome.

Oh, here's an idea for a fun option. A bot versus itself. God Louise vs. God Louise. Gaia vs. Gaia. NotKirby vs. NotKirby. <veg>
