I hate to tell you this Forest, but these days 11 year old girls drool at the thought of dating a guy. Maybe all of em don't know in detail what they wanna DO with the guy, but I can pretty much guarantee most of em do. I once saw a thing on Oprah about 13 year old girls who'd go to parties whose sole purpose was to line up and blow all the boys who'd come, so to speak. When I was that age, I was playing with video games and Legos and trying to get my mom to play Solarquest with me so I could kick her ass, but I wasn't totally clueless. I thought sex was just the man sticking it in and pulling it out and wondered why it was supposed to be so great, but I knew about it. I knew all the swear words even though I never said them. (Boy look at me now.
)
And to think, my mom was 12 when she asked her mother what fuck meant. (Her mother promptly dropped the dish she was washing.) I'm not sure when she finally found out, but a hell of a lot later than I did.
Sometime take a look at what the kids on neo are saying on the boards. It's scary and depressing how much they know, or think they know, at such young ages. It's scary and depressing that a lot of them are more concerned with sex than playing the game. And this is in an era when girls aren't necessarily brought up thinking that their only reason for living is to grow up and get married and have 6 kids and do whatever their husband tells them to. They just think it's adult and fun and they wanna do it all NOW, when they should be trying to be kids while they still can.

I wouldn't describe as "becoming involved" just talking dirty with somebody who obviously has no intention of going beyond dirty talk. And as far as I know, nobody here had any intention to go beyond that. Besides, one of the reason kids love chatting on the Internet is because it gives them a chance to talk dirty without anybody knowing for sure if they are kids.
I haven't met anybody here who gave me the impression of being very young. Maybe there are some teens around, but nobody seemed a kid except bots. Which is a pity, because I love bright kids.

I love bright kids too. And I do get the feeling that there are some here, not many, but a few. People usually "sound" a certain age, or at least sound like a kid. It's usually very obvious.
I'm just paranoid because there are so many folks out there who prey on kids, even if they never actually meet the kid. Harry Potter chat rooms and places like that are full of perverts. I don't want to add to the stuff kids have to go through. I'm not talking about swear words; swearing is nothing. I just mean I really have no desire to cyber with a kid, even if I were to do everybody else in this whole place.
Hardly anybody had computers when I was a kid. But when we weren't running from the dinosaurs, we were running from the occasional creepy grownup, and even if all they did was talk, that certainly counted!

If there were any kids here, chances are they wouldn't be the type of kids I've been talking about. They'd be the geeky ones who learn programming languages practically as soon as they learn English and want to be the next Bill Gates or something. Although I suppose geeks can know about sex too, after all I somewhat did. But they probably wouldn't be as obsessed with it as your average teenage jerk and it wouldn't be as big a problem joking around with them.

Er... if geek kids aren't obsessed about sex, why are there so many sex-related words in hacker slang?
Anyway, if there's anybody here that could sound creepy for children, it isn't you, Butterfly. Perhaps the only one that could freak me out a bit if I were a kid is Kirby, and not for anything to do with sex.
If anybody here is a child, please post your opinion. You don't have to confess your age if you don't want to.

I'm not talking about the evil hacker geek kids. I'm talking about the kind of kids like I was, who you can never tell what they're thinking because they're too shy to talk about it if you asked them. The kind that if someone asks them out they automatically think it's a joke and pop off some sarcastic comment and then go back to their programming. I'm not sure if there's still kids like that though. I've become kinda jaded about the whole issue, seen too damn many idiots in my time.

I couldn't have been a hacker kid if I'd tried. We didn't have the internet until something like 4 or 5 years ago. I used to just sit around writing random sentence generators and twisted choose your own adventure type games in QBasic. I have no idea how to do anything with the innards of a comp, or write particularly useful programs, or any of that shit. I don't really have that much fun coding anyway...I prefer coming up with the ideas and making someone else code it.
I guess my bot is the closest thing to coding I've been interested in for a long time, and if I knew how to do what I wanna do in mIRC script I'd make one there too. (My ideas keep getting squelched by lack of knowledge of parsing, and how to use $1, $2-, etc. without it turning into total gibberish.)

Hey! Evil hacker kids? The geeky ones who learn programming languages practically as soon as they learn English? Wouldn't be as obsessed with it as your average teenage jerk and it wouldn't be as big a problem joking around with them.
Hmm sounds like me an steve, right? (Minus the evil hacker bit)
I've been using computers since I was 5 or 6, and I am a so-called hacker. I know what you're thinking... NO. Hackers are "people who know how to do more than just turn on a computer and check email". So technically OnyxFlame is a hacker, and same with pretty much anyone who programs in any language
I'm telling the truth, go look it up in a dictionary!
www.dictionary.com... The proper term for those "evil kids" is "cracker", or 'one who maliciously enters a remote system with the intent of causing damage'.
(I got really bored and looked it up after someone told me that)
