how bout a function where a (any) botmaster can click on a link on the bot profile after its botmaster has been inactive for a while. it can be suggest to put up for adoption or suggest deletion. so if the prof thinks it should stay/ with its current owner nothing will happen.

I agree, I'm thinking that most likely, the most difficult part about doing something about abandoned bots is sifting through and finding them all, which is something we could help the Prof out with. It's easier for us as a group to compile a list for easy reference, and he can do with it whatever he chooses, including just leave it alone.
emm_oh_you_es_e- That's great, how did you know that Sakuya was up for adoption? Was it in a post that some of us missed?

No, the prof told me. He seems like a pretty good bot, 500 something rating, just not a direction I want to go with bots and I already have 3 little ones
With theseer's idea, I think it is ok in theory but would generate a TON of messages suggesting the deletion of some bot or another which might be a bit of overkill. I do think he has some batch file or whatever that pulls bots in whatever stage of development with owners who have not logged in in whatever time and from what I understand, from the last time we talked about this, from time to time he deletes them.
Auto hibernation seems like a great idea that has not been talked about tho.

Just me, my interest in these bots tends to wane. Sometimes I'll log in every day for months at a time, sometimes I'll go for months at a time without ever logging in. Glad my bots weren't given away...
How about an auto-hibernate mode? Maybe any bot less than say a Junior would hibernate if the botmaster doesn't log in for a month. A bunch of abandoned bots wouldn't really hurt anything if they're asleep, right?
---
I thought it was a pretty good idea too, and I'm glad it got brought up again, otherwise we may never have heard your, and anyone else who missed it before's, opinion about it.

Yeah, no biggie...after going back to sometime early March, I finally found the previous long discussion you referred to about abandoned bots, which I hadn't seen before since I've only been a user since the last week of February. I'm all up to date now as far as I know. After reading all 2652 messages in here, it occurred to me that if everything anyone said on the forum had to be a totally new topic or idea that had never been touched on before, it would get mighty quiet around here.

Lunar22 claims to be the first to have talked about it in late 2002, lol. Nah, I have faith in the imagination of the forge users and their discussions, there are a lot of intelligent users on here which makes it a great site! Or, it could be time to talk about religion again...that was a doozy!

Religion sounds great! lol There's a topic that has been brought up over and over for thousands of years, and somehow intelligent people still manage to have have interesting things to say about it.
I'm also interested in how the bot adoption process works. This was previously mentioned on or around message 2462, but not at too much length, and I and others had said at that time that we were interested in adopting. It would be pretty neat if we had a way to know which bots, like Sakuya, are up for adoption, possibly be able to browse them and choose. I would still love to adopt!

I'll second ezzer here. I wouldn't mind adopting a sibling for Duo and my other "secret" bots.

A friend of mine joined the Forge a while back and started on a bot (Torky) but then quickly lost interest and stopped coming back. I'd love to adopt his poor abandoned bot. If I got permission from his former owner would it be ok?
