Hey, new to this site, gonna be trying to start up my own bot soon. Is there anyway to have the bot's image anything other than one of the preset choices?

After your bot is developed over a certain amount, I think it was 1000??? you can contact the Professor at his email. If He approves the pict. he will change it.
If you get a Friends of the Forge Account you can make your own flash avatar.

Thanks, I'm not concerned with the flashes though. One other thing, is there anywhere I can get a basic bot template that I can edit? Something that includes basic keywords and/or responses for said keywords?

The Book of AI has some basic keywords and responses. On Brother Jerome's home page there are keynomes (keyphrases) for various bots - and a full example of a confessor bot. Some examples from Brother Jerome are also there.
It would be nice if all bots had a basic common knowledge file to aswer questions such as - what color is the sky?, do fish fly? What is the capital of Austria? What is the hammer for.
There is some way to plug in (definition) - but I could not make it work - and in any case it is likely to give machine-like encyclopedic answers.
Verbots have their Knowledge Bases for downloads - there are a lot of one-word keyphrases with responses - all in a different format though. Pandorabots have the original ALICE for download - you can find AIML sets in many places - again in a different format, but will give you some ideas.

That would take all the fun out of it. The great thing about Forge bots is the are all unique. The ideas in the book of AI and BJ's keygnome is to give you ideas not to make a clone. You can't even import if your bot is too much alike another bot.

Yeah, I know, I want mine to be unique of course. I just wanted to get to more of the personality insted of worrying about the first basic responses working well. Atch, I can do it manually, it'll be more fun anyhow.

Sorry to continue to bother, but what command would I use to have the bot recognize and say the name of the person chatting to it? Also,is there a better forum for these questions?

This forum is fine.
Go to your bot workbench.
click on settings
In the AIScript Initialization box type:
default (name) as "name".
now make up a keyphrase to catch the name
My name is (*) in the ai box put rem (key1) as only "name"
for a responce you can have something like I like the name (key1).
Then later to recall the name you use (mem-name)

@Ty Paige:
Give me a bit, I'm having fun with it. Nobody is good at something the first time after all. I may be outta my league, but I understand the basic concepts well enough, and having been in a basic programming class, I at least know the basics of how programs work and search for information. For anything I don't know or understand in the tutorial, there's always Google. Plus, where's the fun if it's not my creation?
I'm gonna leave off posting for awhile now, and just work on getting basic phrases plugged in.

LeftyCat. It comes easy after a bit. When I started I could hardly turn a computer on. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. I had so many people help me when I started.
