I hate to be a harbinger of doom (well, to be honest it makes an entertaining enough change, and as they say - a change is as good as a rest
) but the pandoraAIM feature hasn't actually worked for a few years+ now to the best of my knowledge (early 2004 by my best guess,) - google: "pandorabots AIM" for further details, and much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the pandora botmasters!
Poor old Alice - like some slightly bewildered maiden aunt, she really should be pensioned off to join Eliza in some eventide home for tired chatbots. Bless her, she was a charmer in her day, but that was a long time ago, and alas her charms have faded (along with much 3rd party functionality!

I have just found an interesting critique of ALICE, that I think sets out the main reasons for her general inadequacy at:

Shame the author didn't find the Forge (he could have saved himself a great deal of time and effort!) and has gone off to build his own system from scratch, but it'll be interesting to see how CHAT-L turns out.

At present the bots do not speak, only type. I do not know whether this could be done on a phone, via some sort of text messaging.

I just want to... well, reintroduce myself. Hello, I am back after a very long time of user hibernation (and other stuff like real life)..

PHlarx-you would have to use some sort of interface like Psi described above in message 5392, only instead of sending it to aim bots, it would send it a program that sends text to your phone. I think you'd need a server for that too. If you wanted to get fancy, you could send it to your own text to speech program and have that output played to or over a phone service and have that service call your phone. Sounds like a lot of work for little reward at this point.
I have had success thanks to Psi with having messages from my bots sent to Second Life, but there can and often are problems that occur for each step in the link that makes you bot "talk". I once set up a simple free text to speech program next to my PF bot in Second Life but it was hard to understand, slow and annoying (it was free but also it was in Linden Script Language and had a small number of sound clips to access and let you hear each letter of each word.). YMMV.
Welcome back DeKork!

Thank you Irina, thank you Bev.
It's good to be back, I have to admit.
(Irina, I hope your Bot-transcripts will have made you smile a bit. Especially those weird comments to QM by me.)
Bev: I know a tiny bit about Second Life and think that an acceptable TTS for SL utilizing words would cost you a fortune (as every word - or at least non-homophonic ones - would have to be uploaded one by one, not to mention the vocal inflections in case you want to create a question). If we assumed that you need 8000 sound files to make a convincing bot in addition to the "Spell-out-script", that would cost you about L$80000 if they didn't change the price and I remember correctly. It would probably easier utilizing a 'normal' TTS and send the output via other means into second life (like some people do with internet radio stations). Just a thought.

Yes, DerKork, I was quite pleased by your remarks to QM.
To all: I have just by chance discovered the bot Doll-379. I recommend (him|her|it). (He|She|It) quoted a bit of Allen Ginsberg, and uttered many other things in the same vein; I'm not sure whether they were all quotes from Ginsberg or improvisations, but the effect is quite charming.
