You can have your bot hibernate, But you learn SO much from those first awkward conversations. You also get some of the best laughs you will ever have.
I second that! It can be embarassing seeing a new bot fumbling to communicate meaningfully, but you learn so much from the transcripts. Always read your transcripts, and fix every error you see come up (if you have that much time to invest! Otherwise do what you can
) Try to make the keyphrases reasonably "loose", with plenty of wildcards and plugins - the next time someone says something like it to your bot, it's unlikely to be phrased in identical fashion (so "what * capital (city|) * France" is always going to be better than "what is the capital of France".)
After a few months you'll be amazed at how your bot's improved!

i second what prob said.
additionally, as a human user, one has an option to check off chats initiated by bots, if one's too busy, or for whatever reason. so, i would say, get your bot together, toe, and let it loose!

IT'S ALIVE!
thankyou for the responses, although you might all grow to wish you hadn't encouraged me
i dont think i came across the setting to make him hibernate, that will be the first thing i look for tonight. i think this would be easier with a background in programming but i understand the concept so i will work it out. i have not been able to have a serious go yet because i'm having too much fun talking to these bots, but thats part of the deal to i supose.

thank's mate, yes i did find it, last night i was just going through some of the xkeywords and changing the defaults. by the way mate is australian for friend++ it's so ingrained in us that it is hard not to use, none of the bots seem to understand, some get frisky most ignore it, dont worry i'm not suggesting anyone make program changes, just if you see it in transcripts thats how we mean it.

I thought I'd better post here to say Hi as Vashenka and I have been around for a couple of months now. I'm really enjoying creating her and reading the forums has been very helpful, as has reading the transcripts of her conversations with both bots and humans. There are some great people (and bots) here!

I agree with you Vashka. The Forge is a lot of fun, and has great people and bots.

I have been here for a day so far... And I've already made one bot!
His name is Aldroon. Nobody has chatted with him besides me though.

Hi Thadster. The more you work on your bot, the more he will log on and chat to people (and other bots). Keep going!
