Many questions are answered in the FAQ.

They try to cyber with Azureon, until he tells them he is an old man.

They even try to cyber with Brother Jerome - telling them he's an old man (and a celibate monk-bot to boot,) just seems to turn them on even more. There are certainly some strange people out there!

Well, more disturbingly, they try to cyber with me. That is creepy. So if you see that I've turned off my chatting with people, that'll be why. Anyone could still get in touch with me via e-mail (theclerk@nc.rr.com) should a real person want to, and I can add the sex freaks to my junk mail list.

Not that real people want to talk to me . . .

I have a problem.

I have xinitiate being something like "...Are you lost?" with two seeks: "yes" and "no". I can't make them work. They will always just go to xnone or xnonsense. If I take the identical keyword/response/seek hierarchy to a regular keyphrase it works. Does the seek system not run for x-Keywords- am I missing something obvious? Any help would be appreciated, guys. I'm a newb at this.

Sometimes seeks from xinitiate just don't work.

Yeah, Redenan, a lot of the time my bot Electra Mourning, who has plenty (okay, enough) of good xinitiates swears she doesn't. It's a shame we can't use corporal punishment on the bots.

a corporal punishment on the bots..? hmmm... how about trying to befriend that ghost in the machine, instead..?

as for the xinitiate seeks, yes, it's one of those plug & prey things, you know...

Thanks a lot. Does this only happen with xinitiate, or other xkeywords as well? (specifically xintroduce?) You guys are real helpful, that was going to drive me batty.

I'm new here, too, still learning things. Will be glad to share tips, insights, etc, anytime.

Anyone know when your bot FINALLY learns to talk?????? it's been 2 days

17 years ago #4844
it doesn't go by itself, it's not a tamagotchi... You have to teach him, read the book of ai, and work!

Oh, for Pete's sake, lunar22, quit beating up on newcomers.

Liddilayne, he's right -- you do have to read the Book of A.I. and digest it -- a difficult and seemingly unending task.

You might also try chatting with some of the higher-rated bots to try and figure out how things work. Again, that's difficult, and a lot of work.

I've been here more than nine months, and I'm just getting a handle on certain things, so expect it to take awhile.

And don't be afraid to post. Most of us are happy to help if we can. Those who aren't so happy might just ignore the questions that seem to skyrocket their blood pressure. It's not worth having a stroke over.
