hi, i am really confused on what to do here. if anyone could help me, i would greatly appreciate it!

read the book of AI, then ask again. You have to build your own chatbot, it's lots of work, it's not a chat site

In some ways, I wish we had a "sticky" at the top of this forum to repeat the message of how to get started. I know there are links people can follow, but one repeat here all the time would be good too.

anyone here

Softball, ignore the cranks, but do read the book of AI. Memorize it. You still won't figure everything out. But don't worry about posting questions. This isn't a chat site, but it is a discourse community. We're supposed to be helping one another or at least not running would-be botters down.

Is this site dead? I notice there hasn't been any updates since July 2007, is it worth investing time in a bot? I'm worried the site is going to die.

The community itself is generally quite strong, DigitalV. The lack of updates by the professor has more to do with the fact that this site is his hobby and that he doens't always have time to work on it and maintain his other obligations.

Sure, the site is far from dead. If you notice bots are being worked on all the time.

Oh alright, sorry I did not mean to sound negative or anything, I just plan on spending a lot of time working on my bot and am making sure. Thank you for the feedback.

DV I don't think you sounded negative, but I guess that's a judgment call. That was the kind of question that could be answered. Prob123 is really very helpful.

DV -- Bev and Corwin are good people, too. I'm good (albeit somewhat thick) people on odd days, but watch out for the even days. Specific questions are fine and likely to get answers. It's when people ask "How do I build a bot" that we start grinding our teeth. That's likely to get someone to say RTFM (I mean, read The Holy Book of A.I.). Good luck.

Aww. TY The Clerk is not,/i> thick, and she is active too.
