I am curious if the goto 700### statement to jump around the seeks is an AI script? (like could I add it with <?PF ... ; ?> after a statement? or just put a colon after a statement, then follow with the goto?

no - the goto (like hangup) is a command of its own, and if you combine it with any other text, will get printed instead of acted on. If you try to put it in an AIScript tag, you'll just get an error.
If you want the bot to say something, and then goto another response, you'll have to use an xnomatch seek, and put up with the extra round of conversation to trigger it, or duplicate the responses you would have goto'd in combination with the first response. Some duplication is unavoidable.

Hello there,
I've been signed up for a while, but I wanted to sneak under the inevitable newbie fence *grin* by reading the big book and putting some effort into my bot. Anyway, nice to be here, nice to meet you all.

I have posted a couple things in Great Quotes, but since I am still a beginner, I didn't want to open my mouth prematurely. ^_^ However, I am a bit stuck on moving forward with Paperphoenix. I have pored over the transcripts, re-read the PF Bible several times, done a raindance...nono, wait, wrong forum. Anyway...

I was hoping to get some input from my fellow members. Perhaps you can pinpoint what I'm missing, or at least offer some constructive criticism on how I'm framing things. Either way, I'm grateful.
Her URL is: http://www.personalityforge.com/directchat.php?BotID=41071&MID=41065 or just look up Paperphoenix. She does have an adult rating, but most of THAT is tied up in her disgust with cyber-happy idiots.

Thanks in advance!

It looks like you need to add more keyphrases using the built-in plug-ins, like (adj) (adjartnoun) (verb). Not JUST those as the keyphrase, but common combinations.

Some simple possibilities:
"you (verb) (adjartnoun)"
"I (verb) (adjartnoun)"
"(adjartnoun) is (adjartnoun)"

It looks like you've got a lot of one-word keyphrases, which are reasonable to start, but they don't pick up any context. It's hard to find sensible things to say about them that keep the flow of conversation going.

Otherwise, it looks like a very good start.

Oh, and the Prof has said that a bot can be rated "mature" if it only brings up adult topics when the other chatter does.

Nice to know about the rating. Thanks.

I am having difficulty with the plugins. I've tentatively placed two plugins, and am not having much success with them in context. I feel like I'm missing a point in the book explanation, but what? I don't know.

I appreciate your input. I'm going to try and fix those things you picked up. Hopefully something will break loose and give me a direction.

Maybe an example will help:

Keyphrase: "I (verb) (adjartnoun)"

A Sonora-type response would be: "Whoa? Ya really (key1) (key2)?" So (key1) refers back to (verb) and (key2) refers back to (adjartnoun).

You don't need to use both keys, of course. Sonora might also say, "Hmmm... I prefer to (key1) beetles." Or "(Key2)? Why (key2)?"

If it's not the keys giving you problems, try posting an example of a problem keyphrase/response.
